Rsvps- Mailed, Online, or Both?

Emily, on April 17, 2022 at 7:43 AM Posted in Planning 13 12

We're working on our invitation suite, and we'll having a dilemma with doing online invitation vs mailed back invitations. Our parents want mailed invitations since their traditional, and they think older people would have issues RSVPing online. We think that having the option to RSVP online should be included as well, especially since the USPS has been so horrible recently.

What have you done for RSVPing? How did you word the response card if you did both?

I did both but did a pre save the date survey a year in advance with actual save the date follow ups 9 months in advance and the mailed invitations 3 months in advanced. My guest basically had three opportunities to rsvp and confirm their attendance. This has worked out well. My guest list has grown with only 8 people declining thus far. I only sent out mailed invitations out of respect for older family members and as a formality.

We did both mailing and online. Our invitations didn’t have the response card on it. However, we did add our wedding website to the invitations for people to go online and RSVP. We sent out invitations on a Friday and they arrived the following week. Grateful we didn’t have any issues with USPS.

I have the ppl who were doing the invitations to put the RSVP by on the cards. I have mailed most of them out and others have been hand delivered some I have gotten back and others not yet. But the pain in the behind was we had to put stamps on both original invitation and the RSVP envelopes too. I have everyone names in my book once I do I check them off.

We only advertised an online RSVP, but we have very few guests who will be confused by that and my parents will follow up with those guests since they're their family or friends. We don't have a huge guest list, so it's not a big deal! So I guess it really depends on your crowd.

We did mostly online RSVP with a few of the older people getting physical cards to save money. We didn’t change the RSVP instructions on those people’s detail cards because it would have made things more expensive to print two designs of the detail cards. The online RSVP has been pretty successful. If we did it over again, I’d honestly cut out the physical reply cards entirely because we ended up having to call those older folks for their RSVPs anyway and they didn’t mail them back.

We did both - we had a reply card for guests to mail back and also enabled RSVPs on our wedding website, but didn't specifically state anywhere that online RSVPs was an option (just listed the website URL for more details).

Once we finalize our reception menu, we're planning to make the RSVP page on our website viewable so anyone can do it that way. Ideally, that would help cut down on the number of RSVP cards we'd have to order. But we will probably do a mail-in RSVP option once we send out invitations since some family members aren't super tech-savvy. We'll probably also include something saying there's an online RSVP option as well.

I haven't sent out my invites yet, but they're already prepped and stamped waiting to be mailed.

We did all in one invites from Magnet Street, so they include an RSVP card that just rips off into a post card, all of these were stamped and preaddressed so they could be mailed back if the recipient wanted to do that, but the card also says "or RSVP online" with our wedding website address.

I wanted to give people options, I know most of our older guests are not tech savvy and may want to mail the cards back, I also really like getting mail lol

I haven't sent my invites yet, but I have them ordered. I am only doing online. I have a website and a QR code on the "RSVP Card". So, they can type in the website or scan the QR code. My grandma is 90 Years Old and she figured it out so if she can do it, I figured everyone else on my guest list can figure it out. :-)

They can do it both ways. We're putting our wedding website on the save the dates and there's a tab to rsvp. We're also putting rsvp cards in the actual invitations. I think they'll understand that they can do it digitally or with paper.

We are allowing guests to rsvp however is easiest for them. If that’s mailing in the card as most do, online via rsvpify.com or Withjoy.com, phone/text/email. Our group does not use QR codes so we will not include those, and we don’t even use them when we’re out.

Haven’t decided on wording yet but something to the effect of “please reply by (Date) however is most convenient for you”.
