How far in advance did you ask for your guests to RSVP? For example, we are getting married in Feburary, and I am asking for my guests to RSVP by December so I can get an appropriate headcount to tell my venue.

I’m asking guests to rsvp almost a month in advance. I figured I still have order placement cards and adjust the seating chart. Our venue asks for the final head count a week before the wedding. But I just don’t want to stress about seating that close to the wedding.

Honestly, I think you should do what feels right for you. My wedding is 02/22/20 and our RSVP date is today Dec 6th. We did this on purpose knowing it was against 'statue quo' because we didn't want the invitations to be lost in holiday mail and we also wanted an accurate idea of how many guests we were going to be paying for more than a month out. So far 70% have responded.

Same here! The WeddingWire checklist says to send out invites 6-8 months early when people have to travel far so I don’t think that two months before is bad at all for an RSVP date. That way you can be less stressed about counts.

Your RSVP date shouldn't be more than a month out from your wedding. Generally it's based on when your caterer needs a final headcount (hard numbers, not soft numbers). If you have it too early you're doing a disservice to both yourself and your guests - many guests simply don't know/can't know if they're available that early. The earlier your RSVP date, the more likely you are to get false numbers, e.g. people who RSVP no because they don't know yet if they can get the time off work, people who RSVP yes because they think they can go (but don't know for sure), and then may end up changing their RSVP last minute to a no, etc. It doesn't actually help you get information early because the information you get is likely to change and is incomplete, and it's also considered rude to ask for a response unnecessarily early.

I think this is a perfect time frame. especially because even after your deadline, you will have to chase people down for their answers. i got married on Nov 10. My RSVP date was Sept. 25. i was still asking people almost half way through October.

That problem is made worse by sending invitations too early and having a too-early RSVP date, not better.

It really depends on what your venue needs before you can determine what is "too early". my venue required final numbers one month before our wedding date (which i still didn't have all my RSVPs by). so i needed more time than one month before.

Our wedding is 5/30/20 .. Venue needs final head count 7 days prior. I put to RSVP by 5/1/20. So Whoever does not RSVP by 5/16/20 are SOL. I won’t be tracking anyone down..
