Rsvp?

Jessie, on January 14, 2020 at 12:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17
How did you do your RSVP's? My FSMIL is very traditional with weddings and doesnt understand there are other ways to do it. Like with my bridal shower, I just wanted to create a facebook event but she's sending out invitations. Which is fine, that's her choice.

But I don't really want to have people send the RSVP back, I constantly worry about things getting lost in the mail 😂 Has anyone done it on their wedding website (I use the Knot)? Or is it inappropriate to do it by text or calling?

We did RSVPs for our wedding completely thru our wedding website and had no issues with it. I would think doing RSVPs by call or text would be difficult.

Online RSVPs are great, but I would keep in mind that not all of your guests are likely tech savvy. I feel like text RSVPs are super casual, which is fine if that's the vibe you're going for, but I would also be really annoyed if I had to keep track of all of the texts and calls. Having a website to keep track of them or tangible RSVP cards seems much simpler.

We gave our guests the option to RSVP via mail or our wedding website. Almost all of the RSVP's we've received so far chose to send theirs via mail, only a couple opted for the online option. Unless you're having a very casual wedding, I would advise against text/call RSVP (that was how my MTOH asked for RSVP's for my bridal shower, which was pretty laidback)

We did the traditional route rather than through a website or anything. I loved coming home to look reply cards.

I think text or calling would be impossible to stay on top of & remember all the RSVPs. We had paper RSVP cards but the cards also listed a website people could RSVP with.

I wouldn’t do by text or calling because it’s hard to keep track of, and because it’s so informal people are more likely to just decide not to RSVP at all.

An online RSVP tool is great (we used the knot too)

Daughter's RSVPs were strictly online through her Knot website. All guests except two aunts in their late 80's used the site without any problem (and there were two separate invites/RSVPs for the wedding and the fairly large rehearsal/welcome dinner, both of which had menu selections). It was extremely easy. One elderly aunt wrote her a lovely handwritten note letting daughter know she wasn't up to the cross country trip, and another emailed me to let me know she "didn't think her RSVP worked right," but would be attending. We were nearly certain she neglected to click the submit button after completing her RSVP on the website, but it was easy to fix on our end -- and, she knew something didn't work right. Daughter's wedding was fairly formal/traditional and we didn't get any negative feedback about the online RSVPs (actually, most older family guests who were encountering an online wedding RSVP for the first time thought it was fabulous...). Good luck!

I fully agree with Kelly. We have had some guests try to do rsvps by call and text and it's already becoming annoying. Some guests are just super lazy (sorry, not sorry) to go on a computer or their phone and rsvp. 95% of our guests are 40 and younger... and are always on their phones and computers so it is super annoying. I think I might actually start saying something like, "It's great that you can make our wedding, head over to the website and enter your rsvp in" because seriously. Come on. LOL

I'm using the WeddingWire website since I think it's a little easier to use than The Knot (yes, I know they are the same company, but they do seem to be different). I'm having a semi-formal wedding but I don't want to waste money on stamps people aren't going to use. I've heard from some people verbally that they are coming or via FB message (before I sent the Save the Date) that they had booked their hotel.

I think it's whatever you prefer. I also wanted to use the website to ensure people knew who was invited and who wasn't. Good luck!!

We are doing online only via Zola, and a huge part of our decision was cost - with a significant part of the guest list coming from Ireland, the cost of stamps (to and from) would have been insane.

For older folk I did paper RSVP. For younger folk I did online RSVP.

We are doing online RSVPs through our wedding website. I know some guests may not be tech savvy, so if they don't RSVP by the date requested, we are just going to reach out to them via phone call.
