RSVP wording- worried about Plus 1s.

Jessica, on January 18, 2017 at 12:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I'm doing online RSVPs via my wedding website. On it, I ask for "you name" "your email" "who is coming with you?" By this, I want the name of the Plus 1 if you were given one, or the names of the rest of your family members that are coming (some invitations said "The Smith Family.") I'm worried that those who were invited solo are going to think this means they can bring a random. Any ideas how I can word this better?

I think if your that worried people will try to bring uninvited guest the you should stick to good old fashion mailed back RSVPs. I didnt even do a website, sticking to the old school book on responses

I second ms. G, If you're worried about it, online rsvp's may not work....you would need printed ones

The way I did it, I used mail and online. The wedding website RSVP is a good tool to keep track. If they are single, just put them in by themselves, if they are a social unit, put them in together. Then, when they RSVP, it will pop up with either the one or the social unit. When you mail, if the person is single, just send it with # of seats reserved and put the name on the envelope. Singles. First and Last name. Couples. Mr. and Mrs. or Name 1 and Name 2. Prevents any confusion. At least, that's how I'm doing it.

Invitations are unfortunately already good to go, with the wedding website RSVP printed on there so I can't change it now. And on the website I can't specify how many seats have been reserved for each invite. Changing the wording is my only option!

If a guests responds with more attendees than you invited, you get the joy of contacting them and explaining that they can't bring that/those extra guest(s).

I have a business website through Squarespace so i just added another site to my account for the wedding! I don't think it has the option of knowing which guest is RSVPing and selecting their others Hmmm. Something I didn't think of until now!

If you can't change to traditional RSVPs, and you can't group guests (making Jane RSVP for John, Jean, and Jimmy as well, or making Jane RSVP for herself and her guest - if given one), I would change your name to Name(s) of those attending and email and drop the third category.

OK, for now I have changed it to "Who else is coming with you?" And in small print underneath "the number of seats reserved for you is reflected on your invitation."

My wedding website RSVP allowed me to input each guest and collect them in parties. So when one goes online to RSVP, they are also prompted to RSVP for their SO and kids, if any. I gave every single person a plus one, so for them, it prompts them to RSVP for Their Name's Plus One. If I had excluded plus one's, it would have just allowed them to RSVP for themselves, no adding anyone.

Can you do something like that?

I would definitely try to add in everyone's plus one so they can RSVP individually!! Even if they are "Guest Doe" or something. With your wording I would absolutely think I had the green light to add a plus one!

Are you having a destination wedding? Just wondering why the invitations were printed and/or sent so early.

    Yes, destination wedding.

I didn't know you could group people like that, I'll have to try to figure that out!
