rsvp typical % accepting

Kathy, on October 6, 2019 at 5:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

I know that if you plan to invite people to attend your wedding you should really plan for them to attend. However, there seems to be a ratio out there somewhere (only a guess) that if you invite a number of people to attend, on average, around __ will attend. Does anyone know what that ratio is?

I realize it is only a guess, but was thinking it might be like "for every 100 invitations you send, plan on 90 accepting" or "for every 10 invited, 1 will likely not be able to attend"

Is there an acceptable standard answer for this? Hope this question makes sense.

“A general overall percentage between 75-85 percent of wedding guests usually attend.”

    I saw that somewhere lol

I’ve heard that you can budget for 20% no responses.

There are many factors to keep in mine but I'd say its like a 8:10 ratio. Your guests are a big part-I've heard of some weddings where 50% attended and some where 100% attended so its very hard. Make sure to have enough for everyone but I'd keep a 8:10 ratio or so to expect

I invited about 160, and 115 are attending! Granted, majority of my family lives in California, and our wedding is in Michigan.

I think if you’re having a local, Saturday reception-85% sounds about right. Destinations and different weekdays decrease your response rate.

75% accepted mine, but a lot of the declines are out of state.

I don't know. We're having a destination wedding in the Riviera Maya, on a Sunday with super late notice for our guests.. less than 3 months. We didn't even make real invites, just sent out a text🙈 We were sure most would decline and are ending up with a guest list over 3 times what we expected. Almost everyone has accepted!

I guess it depends on how many out of town guest you have, the time and season of your wedding and if it happens to be on a holiday, weekend/weekday. It also depends how many people you invited out of comprise which their answer really tends to vary on a personal option instead of family that might feel more incline to attend. So it varies in the end from case to case.

We had about a 17% decline rate and about 90% of our guests were from out of town. There’s a LOT of variables, so there’s not a true standard to plan for.

I can't imagine there is a general percentage since this can differ SO much. We had over half our guest list coming in from out of state, we invited full families (included all kids & all significant others & plus ones for some single guests), several guests were in the military and one was deployed, we had a lot of elderly guests, and several on my side are busy with sheep herding during that month. I can't imagine those are circumstances every bride deals with? We invited 225, and had a final count of 125.

Definitely plan and budget for 100% attendance. However, all 3 of my girls had about an 80% acceptance rate.

I also tried to research "standard RSVP rates" when putting together my guest list. I can't remember where I found it, but below are estimated rates I found, along with the actual acceptance rates I received for my wedding. I considered a travel distance longer than a 2 hour drive as "out of town".

    Locals - 90% estimated, 83% actual
Out of Towners - 75% estimated, 61% actual
    Total - 83% estimated, 75% actual

Daughter had exactly 80% (101/127), which was EXACTLY what we predicted based on people we were nearly certain would decline (e.g., elderly out-of-state relatives, some of our international guests, etc.). However, we would have been fine if all 127 attended.

About 30% of the attending guests were out of state.

We invited 181 and our final count is 122. 67% acceptance.

Approximately 60% of our guest list lives 2+ hours/out of state. Other declines include a couple whose due date is closer, sprained ankle, childcare, single guests not bringing a guest, etc.

    This is so helpful!

We are inviting about 180 people, 80% out of town. We are expecting about 120-140 to attend! Fingers crossed!!

We invited about 142 people- estimating for about 112 based RSVPs I've received thus far.
