RSVP tip: Black light pen!

AprilBride, on December 29, 2014 at 3:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 29

Wanted to let you ladies know about a tip someone told me. I think most of us know to write a number on the back of RSVP cards, so we can look up who it is from if one is returned without a name, but I went a step further.

I ordered a black light pen and it just arrived, and it works great! It came with two pens, and they each have a small black light at the end. I can write the guest's full name on the back of the RSVP and shine the light if it comes back unlabeled. It cost me $3 shipped on Amazon.

Below is a pic of the card without the light shining, and then with. I feel like a Harry Potter character...lumos!

I think this is an awesome tip. I know that we modified this tip to write a number in the corner of the RSVP that coincided with my invite list so I could refer back. But we didn't end up having anyone that sent in an invite with out names...though we did have 2 people that sent them in with out checking if they were attending or not Smiley winking

Lol Northern, that is a problem my black light pen would not help with!

We did this and it did come in handy! Once my uncle just wrote Mr. and Mrs. Uncle's Name even though his son has the same name and is also married! And another that came back blank. We did the numbering system.

We'll pre-addressed the return addresses for the RSVP's but we'll still probably do this just to play it safe. Knowing our families, someone would totally mail it back in a different envelope and just send it as Mr/Mrs Galley even though a few have the same name.

Can someone explain to me why you can't get this information from a return address? I've always wondered what exactly was the point in numbering them.

You may find that people will forget to add their own return address, m. That happened to us, but luckily they signed the actual RSVP card.

Bottom line: we did the black light pen, and even though we didn't need it in the end, it added more comfort when we sent everything out knowing that we could cross check.

@m.m also because there have been people who have actually forgotten to write their names in on the RSVP then sent it back (saw this very RSVP rant a couple of times in my stint here on WW). Like Rustic, this never happened to us, but I would rather have been safe than sorry.

Of course you can send a letter without a return address!!! You just run the risk of it not being returned to sender if something is wrong with the piece of mail...

Yeah, you can send something in the mail without the return address. That's there so the post office knows who to return anything back to in case the destination address is wrong, the envelope needs extra postage, etc.

Total honesty here, I decided to do this because I have divorced parents. They both know about the trick of putting numbers on the back (they've both planned several weddings Smiley winking) and they would totally turn it over to see who "ranked" higher.

So...peace of mind. And yes, you can send a letter without a return address.
