RSVP Question - Steaks Cooked to Order

Kelly814, on June 20, 2016 at 3:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hello!

One of my entree choices is sirloin steak, and my caterer can cook it to order according to each guest's preference. (We will then have some method of putting what temperature on each guest's placecard to help with serving.) Our dilemma is then on how to indicate on the RSVP cards that each person needs to put rare, medium rare, etc. Most of the RSVP cards I've seen just have a place where people put how many chickens, steaks, etc that are needed. We're needing something a little more in depth so we know who wants what (versus that one person wants a medium rare steak, the other wants chicken, but we can't tell know which person wants what).

Does anyone have any suggestions or samples of something we can do? I don't want the RSVP card to get too bogged down with details, but we want enough so that someone who likes their steak rare doesn't get a well done or vice versa. (cont. below)

Usually the venue will take table orders at the event for this. The venue is asking for counts ahead of time for temperatures?

This is about the best I've come up with so far. I'm still worried that it'll be too confusing. I thought about putting lines where people can put down names, but I'm worried that if I put 8ish lines as standard, people who are only getting one plus one might think that we have room for them to bring 6 more people...

ETA: Ignore entree selections/RSVP date/style. They aren't accurate - I just took something from online and tried to modify where guests put their options.

@LaurenET yes, the caterer prefers that we have head counts ahead of time. We could have a server take orders, but I'm not sure how that will work time-wise - we're having approx 225 people. But that's a good idea to consider and would make things easier!!

Why not just include an extra card that is the menu choice card where they can write in the doneness of the steak or if they choose the other choice?

Yeah if the caterer requires it I think your card looks fine!

@Alyssa That's exactly why I'm doing it! I love steaks medium, my mom only eats them if they are well-done, and I know several other people that are like you and like it rare. When my caterer said that he could do different temperatures, I got crazy excited! Smiley smile

@Mary A seperate card would give more room! I'm just not sure how to word it/format it so people aren't confused.

Maybe just have it below the steak option with the opportunity to circle the doneness?

Also, as a person who hates overdone meat and wants blood on her plate, I would find this ridiculously thoughtful and would probably add to the gift envelope for such a nice touch!

Thanks guys!!! I really like the idea of having guests circle the level of doneness - it'll make it clearer what we're after on the RSVP cards and will be one less thing for guests to write!

This also really helps affirm the idea of doing different temperature steaks. I've never been to a wedding that did this, or even heard of it before my caterer suggested it. I fell in love with the idea, but wasn't sure if people would think it was a "bit too much." Now I'll have no second guessing! Smiley smile
