rsvp Please 🙏

The Bride, on September 21, 2019 at 5:29 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

I recently attended a wedding where guests could RSVP for the wedding ceremony only, reception only, or both the ceremony and reception.

For my wedding guests were only given the option to RSVP for both the wedding which consisted of the ceremony and reception.

Which RSVP system did you choose for your wedding and why?

We just have one RSVP for both ceremony and reception. It's not common in our area to skip the ceremony unless there is a long gap between the two events. We don't have a gap, so we don't anticipate it being an issue, but even if it was the ceremony count doesn't really matter.

My husband and I also had the same expectation at our wedding.

I don't know why you would really need an RSVP for the ceremony anyway. At the ceremony venue, there are no additional arrangements or cost per person. So I always assumed that although we just had one RSVP, people would say yes or no based on whether they would be there for the reception.

That being said, there was only one person who said she might not be able to make it there for the ceremony but would definitely be there for the reception. And she ended up being able to come for the ceremony anyway.

We are just having one RSVP. Really only matters for the reception and food.

We are only having one. But since it’s a destination wedding, we are also asking their travel dates and where they are staying.

    It was just an RSVP.

They could either stay for the Reception or leave.

    Congratulations and 🍀‼️

Ours was all in one venue, and it is not common in my area to only attend one or the other. So, our RSVP was all inclusive.

Every wedding venue is not the same, some couples pay a separate fee for the ceremony. Also, I think the point behind having that RSVP style would be to allow guests to honestly express their plans. It also allows the couple to gauge how many people would be at each event.

There was no additional cost for our wedding guests to attend the ceremony so we really only collected RSVPs to keep track of how much food we'd need during the reception. But, we also had an expectation that if a guest was coming to the reception they'd also be at the ceremony. We didn't have any issues with guests only attending one.

Why did you ask for that information?

Why did you choose to have that rsvp system? Why were you surprised that some guests only attended the ceremony?

I ended up choosing that method because I had to rent chairs for the ceremony. So I didn't really want to rent my actual 250 guest list if I'd have known ahead of time only 150 actually will attend. That's a lot of extra money for 100 chairs.
