rsvp on wedding website

Tiffany, on September 8, 2020 at 1:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
So I’m doing save the dates only(wedding website will be on it) with an RSVP card included for those who choose to submit old fashioned way. But our wedding website will be the primary way for all details to be communicated and to RSVP. My question is when should I open my RSVP portal online? Or should I just leave it open so that when people receive their save the date they can RSVP right away?

You should turn it on when your invitations go out. You don't want guests to RSVP when they receive a save the date. Not only is that not an invitation, but things can also change in the several months between STDs going out and invitations going out, and you don't want to deal with people calling you to change their response.

Caytlyn it looks like she isn't doing invitations, only a save the date if I read it correctly.

I agree. If you don't plan on doing invitations then I think it can be open right away. Be mindful though that anything can happen from the time you send the save the date to the actual wedding day. So you may have people change their answers or even forget to change their answers on the site.

Invitations aren't really an optional thing. If you want to skip one or the other, I would skip the save the dates as they are optional. Your guests aren't going to RSVP when they get a save the date because, well, save the dates aren't a call to RSVP.

This. A save the date is not an invitation. Also a save the date is a very informal optional heads up and does not actually invite anyone, which a required formal invitation does.

If you want to save paper, there are digital platforms such as paperlesspost.com.

We had one person RSVP when they got our save the date, and they did it four times so I’m pretty sure they didn’t mean to. Otherwise, guests are generally going to wait for an actual invitation. I would be confused if I got a STD but no invitation came close to the wedding, and I would probably assumed I was no longer invited. You might end up following up with a larger portion of your guest list to track down RSVPs if you do it this way.

    Thirded.

Once you attach an RSVP, it's an invitation by definition.

Also, if you want to save money/paper, you skip the STD, as it's not really necessary.

If you’re going to skip one, I recommend skipping the save the date and sending invitations on the earlier side. Most people won’t understand that they’re supposed to RSVP based on just getting a save the date.

You would still send out invites at the 6-8 week mark without a save the date. It's been done that way since forever with 80-100% attendance. Also, a save the date can be a verbal announcement and was until postcards/magnets became commonplace in the last 10 years.
