RSVP list incomplete... what to do about finalizing catering counts???

lisa, on June 29, 2011 at 11:26 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hey ya'll, I have a bit of a problem and am wondering what to do????

We have RSVPs from 55 of the 77 invitations we sent out. There's still 22 parties left that didn't respond. My MIL will be checking with her family about what their plans are but the rest of the people are my FH's and his family's friends. ARRRGHHHH!!!

We need the number to determine how many tables we get so we don't have people sitting on the floor if their feet get tired during the reception, and we can't pay for 85 people if we'll actually have 120 at the reception! What a bummer it would be to run out of food!

What do I do???? What did you do when your guests were slow as mud at responding??

Sucks but every bride deals with this. You just have to call each of them and ask. this is exactly why i didn't invest in RSVP cards lol, nobody sends them back!

    GL though!

Does your venue really require a headcount this early? My fear for you is that if you start calling around now, you may have a lot of people changing their minds closer to the date. You have more than a month to go. I've had several people RSVP already who have had to change their response, and mine's a week after yours.

It is always a tough situation. I remember when the deadline day came around for my RSVPs and I was still waiting on 20 out of 100 families. I got my FH, mom and grandma on the phone trying to get ahold of people. We are still waiting on 2 families, but you have to be proactive. There were some people we called and they were so apologetic because they did not send their RSVP card back. Sometimes life gets in the way and they truly forget to send it back, some really appreciated the reminder. Smiley smile

Hopefully they wil respond before your head count is due. Is it your venue or do you need the count so early for planning? My venue just needs a final count 10 days before the wedding, so we put our rsvp date 3 weeks out.

We are planning to set up an evite. The day the deadline hits, anyone who has not responded will be added to the evite. We will give them about 4 days on that then the phone calls and we plan to word them like Brian said "I will have to assume you will not be able to make it if we don't hear back"

    good luck

I had a similar issue. A few will role in the first couple days after the "due" date. If time has gone by, you will have to make phone calls. I think we ended up with 16 people who just never rsvp'd so we counted them as a no. They dont live close by so it worked out for us

The ones I'm worried about live close by. We have to pay balances on things like catering, so I'm going to have to find out their phone numbers and track them down! Thanks, everyone!

Pretty much what everyone else said. You are going to have to start tracking them down to get their answer. Sucks especially when you make it so easy for them to RSVP, but it happens...... to just about every single bride. I have yet to hear from a bride who said her entire guest list RSVPed by the date with an answer.

I'd just give me a call and see if they are able to come or not. No biggie.
