rsvp Frustrations

Gabby, on September 24, 2021 at 8:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 16
You all I really thought my guest list would have been different. It's a smallish list of close family and friends. We are 1 week from the deadline to rsvp and I still have over half of the list who hasn't rsvpd. I assumed I'd have to follow up with some people, not the majority of the list. The only reason as many rsvpd so far is because I reminded a few people on my side about the deadline coming up. I get it, people forget. But they've only had the invites a couple of weeks. Most people (family and friends) have said oh do I still need to do that? You know I'm coming 🤦‍♀️ I'm afraid people aren't taking this seriously. This is the first big wedding among my social group for a lot of people. My man of honor and I were talking recently and I said I hope people show up bc I won't be happy if my $10,000 is wasted. He got married in May and was shocked I spent that much. He had a backyard BBQ wedding with like 20 people. He said to me it's nob wonder why you're so on top of all of this. Like it's not easy to put together a wedding basically alone in less than a year. Sorry I just needed to rant in a safe space.

Totally understand! The RSVPs are excruciating! I had to track down my brothers & they said the same thing “oh? You really wanted me to mail it in?” I could of throat punched them!
    Vent away sister soul!

I even made the whole thing online and put a qr code so they could take a picture and it would take them to the website.

The RSVP deadline is the part of wedding planning that I knew would be an absolute pain, and I dread it! It is a week after our RSVP deadline and we still have people we have not heard from, saying that they don't know yet "so maybe", they don't know whether they will come to both ceremony or reception and might change their mind plus more excuses. I am so over it!

Like we are trying to give our guest count to our vendors in order to make our final payments and we can't get straight answers. We've started working on our seating chart that is just as much as a nightmare. Ughh, can it just be rehearsal night already....?

Ugh I get it. I am just ready to be married already. We're both beyond stressed for various reasons and I'm just ready to be done.

    Yes 100%

I am ready and eager for it to be the night before so we can relax and enjoy the fun we will have and people around us. Ready to be married and to then be off to the honeymoon!

I’m 14 days out... last week still chasing a couple said not coming, one of us coming to not coming. I finally told FH if they show up they are out of luck. I’m putting them as no. We’ll see them after the wedding. These people are MARRIED know about RSVPS.

Yep. After the deadline I will probably give them another week before they are a no. Don't bother showing up because you'll have no seat and no food

Ugh, I feel ya. We are also a week out from our RSVP deadline and about 40% have not responded yet. So frustrating. And it’s so demoralizing to check the mail each day and not have any RSVPs!

Especially since it's online, you'll probably get a significant number of your RSVPs on the last day. People typically fall into 2 groups: those that take care of it right away or those that do it last minute. My wedding was pre-pandemic and the bulk of my RSVPs came in at the end (mail-in RSVPs). I know it's frustrating, but you gave people a deadline and you just gotta wait it out until that date comes. After that, reach out to the people who you're missing (there will always be some).

O will be reaching out to the people on "deadline day" - also because it's the last day that our hotel room block can be booked, after that the venue (which is also the hotel) will no longer hold the rooms for our guests. After that I will wait another week and then remove the RSVP feature from our website. In it's place I'm going to put a message telling people that the RSVP deadline is past and if they do decide to show up anyway, please bring a chair and a sandwich. I'm so done with running after people, I don't care if it's rude.

You bring up a good point. I didnt think to disable the rsvp feature! I definitely will do that. Yes same with hotel blocks for us. One of our hotels releases the rooms just a couple days after our rsvp deadline

That’s it. How hard is it to drop a pre-stamped envelope in a mailbox?

Just had someone tell FH that they are attending the wedding after all. Yesterday. I was so mad I stuck them at a table with my dance troupe. What the actual hell is wrong with people?! I just lost it yesterday with FH not at him, but his “friend”. He doesn’t even see this guy that much. Wedding is October 9 and seeing vendor to finalize numbers TODAY. Sorry for the pissed off rant.
