rsvp follow ups

Chandra, on March 21, 2019 at 9:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 16
I've got a week left for folks to RSVP but as of right now we have just under 50% of guests accounted for.

I'm just curious about the average percent or number of guests people have had to reach out to after the deadline?

I have a feeling we'll be doing a lot of reaching out, which I might delegate to our parents since most of the missing are their guests or they're better able to reach if they're family.

I've heard a lot of people just don't rsvp for whatever reason. I'm not looking forward to having to reach out to people either. I mean, I put the return address and a stamp so all they have to do is write their name and a number. Ugh. I did do up a lowest number and highest number based on my guessing, but that's just a guess.

My dad was of the opinion that you dony need a decline option on them because if people aren't coming they just dont send an RSVP back...I was like what!?! I still need to know!

I put a decline option on mine so everyone *should* send it back regardless but I know it won't happen. Ugh. Mine are due on the 15th.

I waited a few days after the RSVP deadline because I was still getting them in the mail. Some people actually mail them out on the deadline date.

Plus I anticipated having to track people down so I made the deadline 2 weeks before my count was due to the venue to give myself time to chase after people.

We only had about 10 people that didn't respond out of 181 guests. When we called if I got a voicemail I would say if they didn't get back to me by x date that they would be considered a no.

Yeah I built in about a week and a half to get numbers. It's a headcount for the bakery that I need a month early so I figure worst case I can round up the number for them.
My actual venue deadline is a week before so I can be more precise with them.

Ugh that's so annoying, I'm so sorry! Our deadline isn't for a little over a month, but I can already see it's definitely going to be more of my mom's friends that have to be tracked down too. I've seen some of her friends lately who haven't RSVPd, and they've been talking to me about how excited they are so I'm like, so... you're coming?? But I don't want to take a verbal "I can't wait!" as an actual RSVP. And what about their husbands? Ugh. I hate when people just assume you know they're coming.

Not sure the percentage, but a lot of people are bad at RSVPing for things, even weddings. I'd definitely have you mom reach out though, if she's willing.

For our wedding we had 90 families respond and had to track down 93... super annoying and one of my least favorite parts of the whole process.

So far we have had 9 RSVPs out of around 80 invites. The RSVP date is a week from tomorrow. I am hoping that they will start coming in. A lot of people asked us if they need to send it back because we know they will be there. I mean we already stamped it, so YES! FH's family said they don't care; they aren't sending them back. Ugh

Oh yeah that makes sense, and like I have a friend who lives across the country and he texted me that he is 100% going to be there but he's not sure if his girlfriend can make it so he hasn't formally RSVPd yet. So situations like that make sense if you're still waiting to know about your SO or something, but some people I'm like ok, I'm 99% sure you're coming and I'm 99% sure YOU know that you're coming, so just give me the confirmation please! Lol. Hopefully we'll get more in the next month or so! We seem to be getting a few more each week. We've gotten 62 out of 134 already so that's not terrible, as long as they keep trickling in consistently!

Good luck trying to gather yours!

Ugh how frustrating! I'm at 30% response rate but my RSVP date is April 13th. I used to be the person who would wait until last minute to send the response and now I feel bad for doing that!!...never again. I just wanna know! lol I wish I would have kept my original March 27th RSVP date I was going to do.

Although I just spoke to someone who I sent a STD (and invitation to) ask me about the wedding because she hadn't received her invite yet...the one I sent out the first week of March!!! I HATE the post office. So now it makes me wonder, who else didn't get one?!

If your deadline for RSVPs is a week or two weeks away, I would start nudging now in order to remind people. This is especially for folks who are in couples or who have kids so they most likely just haven't had the time nor frame of mind to sit down and talk about the logistics of attending your wedding. We only did digital invites and RSVPs via our Wedding Wire website so no paper. I've also been emailing our guests about once a month to give them updates and remind them about the RSVP deadline. The last one was in February, about a week before our deadline.

Lots of people appreciated the nudge and it just finally made them click yes and select their food preferences. The food preferences and alcohol stuff was crucial and I framed it as a way to help the caterer get things right and not waste food.

I can so relate to everyone's comments. It is was so frustrating to still have almost 50% not RSVP within a week of the deadline. We sent a few RSVP cards with return envelopes, and the rest only our Wedding Wire site to RSVP online. What helped us was sending out text reminders a few days before the deadline.....we received a big influx of responses once folks were reminded. We are 3 weeks out now and only have about 10 who have not responded so we have given up on expecting to hear from the stragglers.
