RSVP envelope etiquette??

Pamela, on February 16, 2017 at 4:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

I am putting together and addressing all of the invites and RSVP envelopes, my question is on the RSVP envelope, do I put my fiance's first and last name and my first and last name? Or do I put what our new names will be together? For example: Steve Smith and Pamela Jones or Mr. And Mrs. Smith? Also, do not worry I am not sending these out until April. I'm just getting them done so I don't have to worry about them later.

The RSVP should go to whoever is hosting, or whoever is in charge of the guest list. If that is you and your FH then you can put both of your names, however you are comfortable writing it.

I think you could also do The Future Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but I'm not totally sure about whether that would fly with USPS.

ETA I should mention that for our return address and RSVP envelopes I used only our first names and our address.

We did Mr John Smith and Ms Jane Doe on ours. I thought it would look cramped at first, but they looked pretty good when they were done.

You won't be Mr. and Mrs. Smith yet, so I'd do "Mr. Smith and Ms. Jones" or "The Smith/Jones Family" or "Bob and Linda" or even just one name is probably fine.

@windowschick that surprises me. Have they not had people get married before?

I think you should go with whatever your full names are currently (I.e. Jane Doe and John Smith). Since you haven't actually changed your name yet I'd think the postal service would have some issues with anything otherwise.

You can do Ms. Your Name or Mr. His Name or Future Mr. and Mrs. Or you can do YourLast-HisLast Wedding

I would advise against use his last name with your first name on anything until the reception.

We got a good deal and ordered a bunch of labels for save the dates, invites, RSVPs, thank you cards, etc. Since some of the folks on my side of the guest list may not have recognized my fiance's name (and vice versa), we did my first/last name and his first/last name.

Please put at least one last name that is associated with that address. The usps is not suppose to deliver any mail that does not match the last name in your mailbox. There are many that still do but the mail is delivered by last name. If there is a substitute carrier they may not deliver your mail and it will be sent to dead letter. Will this happen? Maybe not but I wouldn't risk it.

When you change your name, alert the usps of the name change and make sure your mailbox has the correct last name.

Just put just out first names on our RSVP postcards. Do whatever feels right to you. Trust me, USPS does not care one way or the other.

My best friend is a postmaster, I'm just passing on the information she gave me when I asked the same questions.

I put both of our names, with mine first as that was the order on the invitation.
