RSVP Declines

Started getting responses back from our guests this week. Today we received the first decline. Odds were good this couple wouldn't be able to make the wedding, but having the actual card with "Decline" checked made me sad. Did anyone else feel that way? Did you get use to it quickly, or relive it...

Did you get use to it quickly, or relive it every time you opened No response card? Just curious.

No!! I'm happy to get declines because a lot more people than what I wanted were invited lol. I'm happy that they are declining rather than ignoring it altogether. I'm actually getting yes's from quite a few people I never expected to come.

I'm hoping for some declines from some people (courtesy invites for parents and their friends). I'm sure there will be a few declines that make me sad, I'm not expecting anything-good or bad.

I am always happy to be saving money, but I genuinely wanted everyone invited on my side to come. I was 100% in control of my side of the guest list.

I prepared myself for declines from my OOS guests, so I've handled those well. I did not prepare myself for my childhood best friend to decline. That one stung. She explained why, but it actually made it worse. I can't control what other people do, but her reasons hurt, because it boiled down to "we're choosing not to come".

Kinda sad but then you think about the money being saved. If someone really wants to be at your wedding they will make it.

We were limited to 150 invites. Both me and FH have a big family, which didn't give us room to invite a lot of friends. With that said, I can invite friends if I receive declinesSmiley smile

Weddings are still a novelty on my side of the family (I'm the second kid on my mom's side to get married, first on my dad's side), so I think all my family members that I want to be there will make it. I was bummed when I found out that one of my best friends since we were like 5 years old won't be able to make it, but I totally understand, because he's going through a lot right now, dealing with PTSD and transitioning, not to mention living across the country and not knowing anyone else who would be at the wedding. Everyone else, though, I think I'll just be happy to cut down the guest list a little bit. Talk to me after I've actually received my first official RSVP decline in the mail, though -- so far I've only gotten yeses and a couple verbal nos.

I kind of already knew who was going to decline ahead of time (mostly because of distance) but there were a few people who had last minute issues come up and they couldn't come and that was a bit sad.

We've only had declines from out of towners which could have been expected. Still waiting on 30 invites so we'll see.

Yep - enjoy it. Less $ to spend! Also, it frees up a spot for a coworker that you've recently gotten close to or a new friend you've made.

Good to know that I'm not totally alone. We had our original guest cap at 200. Which got moved to 230, then 250, now its 270. FH knows too many people and loves to see them all! 150 of our list is family, both sides are quite large. But, yes, I'm all for saving the money.
