rsvp deadline vs. hotel room block deadline

hogwartsdork, on July 12, 2015 at 9:16 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

Hey there, everyone! I am just about ready to send my invitations off to the printer; but I am being held up by the hotel where our room block is, waiting for a link to include on one of the inserts. Anyway, I was pretty much set on this decision, but now that I am waiting on the hotel, I am letting myself second guess things. Here's my question:

My wedding is October 17, 2015 and according to our contract with the hotel, we are to release any unbooked rooms on September 1st. I decided to make both deadlines the same to keep things consistent. Now I am not sure. Does it matter if I make the RSVP date for the wedding a little bit later (say Sept. 7) than the deadline for people to book their rooms?

How did you handle it? Thanks, looking forward to your input Smiley smile

I would make your RSVP deadline based on when your caterer needs their final numbers. Ours is about two weeks before, so I have time for any stragglers. My room block expirse one month before and if people haven't booked by then, the convenience I've provided is no longer available. They'll have to figure something else out. Sept 1st for RSVP seems a little early and people may not know that far in advance.

My wedding is the same day.

The hotel deadline is September 4 (set by the hotel), and our RSVP deadline is September 9.

They don't have to be the same

Thanks, ladies. I was just saying to FH that I should ask for more time with the hotel. But I'll leave it be. As Catherine put it, people will just have to figure something else out after the fact. Okay. I'm going to make the rsvp date around the 9th. Dropping the invites the first week of August instead of the last week of July.
