rsvp deadline nearing

Nicole, on February 27, 2021 at 7:32 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17
Our RSVP deadline is 3/3 (wedding 4/3). Hotel required it for discount room block. I’m mostly waiting on family to find out if they will be traveling. I do not think many will (I completely understand). I do not need to give food preferences until 10 days prior so that allows for a little extra time. Do I wait until 3/2 to reach out and find out if they are accepting or declining?

Hi Nicole! We had a lot come in the day of the deadline itself and only a handful I called the day or two afterwards. If you feel guests are on the fence, I have called or texted to explain our covid precautions and answer any questions they had. For example “Hi Aunt Sue, I just am touching base about the covid precautions for the wedding and make sure you knew we’re providing masks and hand sanitizer for all. I am seating you with your household at the reception. Do you have any questions I can answer for you?” This works too to find out if they are coming by not directly asking them 😉❤️

Thank you Katie! That's a great way to word it. I know a few will not fly regardless of covid, which I understand. I'm getting texts saying "we got your beautiful wedding initiation" and then nothing else lol, but that is mainly for friends. I will be patient for a few more days. I just was not sure if I needed to start reaching out as I know many people probably do not have our RSVP date at the top of their to do list (which I also understand). Thank you for your help!

This. People have far more concerns that need answers than usual. And where usual advice is to wait til RSVP, I am a big believer that if these people are such close friends that you have invited them, are people you can talk to! A no pressure helpful call, even a week or two before RSVP date, information offered, will often either get an over the phone un-asked for answer that we just realized we have a conflict, whatever, Decline.
or true Maybe people get answers, and make up their mind. And others, the yesses who are planning on finding a pen or their phone some week soon, are happy to tell you now.
Indirect, but it works. We went into the last 6 weeks before our wedding with 3 invitations not known, and answers from the others . My Mom and MIL had married off lots of our older siblings and advised us to be in no hurry, very indirect and helpful, with pen in hand and chart beside us.

We’re wedding twins! Our deadline for the headcount is 3/5 & that’s for food preferences. We put a deadline on the RSVPs of 2/28- that gives me 5 days to track down the stragglers. Thank goodness I have only 5 couples to track down! People who don’t respond SUCK!

You do not contact anyone until after the deadline. Most replies will come in the last day and you will still need a day or 2 to tally everything and contact those who didn't send anything in.

If these are physical RSVPs, the mail is horrible right now. My guess is a lot of people mailed their responses weeks ago but the mail is slow. I mailed my invitations over a month ago and less than half have arrived to my guestlist. Thank goodness I'm doing website RSVPs instead of messing with the mail again!

We moved our date up last month Fromm 7/23 because we were originally going to get married in Hawaii but didn’t feel comfortable with our restrictions. And when we looked at dates we really liked 4/3/21, everything since then has fallen into place. I found a dress I absolutely love off the rack for half price ($460)! And I ordered our flowers earlier In the week from Etsy! Now I just need to concentrate on out of town gift bags. Are you doing wedding favors? We cannot decide if we should. I’ve read here most people don’t want to take anything home so thinking about doing a donut dessert table instead.

We’re not doing gift bags. I just ordered (from a local baker) chocolate covered toffee that’ll be handed out to the tables while there’s dancing. Ordered these bags from Amazon so the candy will be individually wrapped. All together it came out to $96 rsvp deadline nearing 1

Most people do not give favors because they get left behind even when edible.

They are 100% optional and personal preference. They are nice but will not be missed if you don't have any
