RSVP cutoff date

MrsGtoBe, on September 18, 2017 at 11:10 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

I am planning on sending our formal invitations in late January for my May 12th wedding but I'm not sure what the "RSVP by" date should be. How far before the wedding day should the cutoff date be to RSVP?

Depends on when your caterer needs a final head count then I would add 2 weeks to that date so you have time to hunt people down who don't answer Smiley smile

January sounds very early. If you send them out that early people will be more likely to forget to RSVP.

I did two weeks before headcount was due. Gave me plenty of time to track people down.

What is it with everyone sending out their invites so early? Your invites should be sent out 6-8 weeks prior. 9-10 isn't too bad either (I did 9). Your RSVP due date is 2 weeks before final numbers are due.

You are going to have so many people to follow-up with by sending them in January because hardly anyone commits to something so far away. If you get lucky and have a lot of people who RSVP, they are going to change their minds as your date draws near.

That's way too early. We have the same date.

I'm sending mine out either the end of February or the beginning of March (probably beginning of march, that's about 8 weeks) and asking for them back by April 10th or 12th. It gives them a month to figure out if they're attending, and it gives me two weeks to do the seating chart, and the entree choices to our caterer. My caterer needs our numbers by May 1st.

If you aren't sending save the dates you could send your invites earlier.

You should be sending them out on March 11 with an rsvp date of April 11. January is way too early.

That's super early. I would honesty forget about the wedding if I got an invite that early. I'm sending mine out 9/8 weeks out. I need a final headcount 2 weeks or so out.

I'll probably do what Mrs Knolle suggested. Send out invites two months before and have the deadline about a month before. That seems like the most reasonable to me. I'm also sending STDs in November tho

Way too early! Married May 13th. Mailed invites beginning of March (March 4 actually). RSVP was April 30th. Venue needed final numbers by May 5th. We had a smaller wedding so didn't need two weeks to follow up.

We are going with what our venue wants. They would like a head count the week before so we are making the RSVPs due a week before that.

    Example:

    Head count due 3/21

    RSVPs due 3/14

Are you having a destination wedding or something? Or do your guests require obtaining visas?

Have the rsvp's sent back in a month and a half before. A lot of people send them out even early despite what wedding websites say. Just remember, out of site out of mind.

    Wedding date twins! Smiley smile

I was planning on sending our save the dates in January and the formal invites first week of March with an RSVP cut off date of April 9th. Giving me a little more than 30 days for final head counts

@OP & Evelyn - Send your Invites 6-8 weeks prior ( you could do 9-10 weeks if you have a lot of OOS guests/its a destination wedding). Janaury is way too early and everyone will forget/lose their RSVP.

You cut off date should be due 2 weeks before final numbers are needed to give you time to follow up.

You are going to drive yourself crazy all of January and February and most of march wondering why no one is sending in RSVPs if you send them too early. People won' t commit to something so far in advance if they aren't one of your VIPs (immediate family/bridal party)
