RSVP cards and menu choices for households

Amanda, on April 8, 2015 at 10:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

We are having 3 protein choices. For most of our invites, they are for a household. My aunt has 5 kids! How do we get all their choices on one card? Do people know to number them off or something? What's the etiquette for this? Tia!

I still need to make changes to mine but i would assume that if there are more than 2 people that they would know to write in numbers in the spaces

This is what I did on the RSVP card and it mostly worked. only 3 people needed phone calls to clarify:

"Please write the name of each guest next to their meal choice:

    Beef:____________

    Chicken:___________

    Vegetarian:___________

    Child's Meal:_____________"

Do you need to know which meal goes to which person, or do you just need to know how many of each meal to order? If it's the former, I'd include a line per guest with "[Name] is/is not attending and would prefer beef/chicken/lamb. If you have too many people per family, you might want to include multiple response cards for them! (Or just call them to get their details once you've received a general rsvp.)

Thanks ladies! I just may have to make a ton of phone calls if they don't know to number it off! I do need to know who wants what so I can know what dish goes to what seat day of! Fun stuff!

I've seen RSVP cards that say to initial next to your meal choice. So if Teddy and Jane Doe both want the ravioli, they would both initial next to that choice. Tells you the number and the specific people who want that choice.

ETA: I know you said you still have to make changes to this, but is the date not lined up with "by" on purpose? I would recommend putting them on the same line.

On our RSVP card we asked people to initial by the meal they want.

There is another poster here who is in Las Vegas. I can't remember her name but she has really cute rsvp with lines for each names. If you copy her rsvp, you will be able to get all the meals attached to the names.

This is a different style than what I was thinking of but it works too: http://s150.photobucket.com/user/ambers_place/media/junk/RSVPSMALL.jpg.html

Why isnt having the number of each meal enough?

i have been to a few weddings where the servers asked what we got, i am sure that people switched meals but i would think that the caterer would specify that they need the meals marked for each person and even have extras on hand.

i guess you can always ask your caterer how they usually have brides give them the meal count. i cant imagine that a server would say "ooooh your escort card says you got the steak sooo we can't give you the fish" i would be pissed if i heard a guest of mine wanted something other than what they got, even if they did change it from what they originally told me.

ETA: you would give the count of each meal per table anyway

Surfergirl - I was at two different weddings where I didn't get the food I ordered because other people switched and by the time food came to our table, that was all that was left. It's a big deal since I have food allergies and received food I couldn't eat.

Jane- i guess my point was that either way if people decide that they don't like the way a meal looks when they see it they may decide to switch so putting it on the escort card or place card doesn't necessarily mean that it wont happen. people can always say that there must have been a mistake with what meal was written down

if someone has that severe of an allergy that should be noted and given priority of course

This may be mean, but, I will flat out tell my guests that they cannot switch meals. Sorry, but no. You get what you ordered. I will instruct the kitchen of this as well! These are not a bunch of 5 yo's! They will eat what they chose and suck it up lol

The lady at my venue told me to put a color rhinestone on the escort card to indicate the meals and then the couple would figure out who ordered what or share both if different maybe. So if it was one chicken and one fish they may have a silver and black rhinestone and if it was two chicken they may have two silver rhinestones.

I've only seen RSVP's that ask for the number by each choice so they have a count of how many of that dish to order. Then at the wedding they just ask your preference.

Our caterer needed us to clearly indicate on the escort card the guests choice - we did color coded. Caterers do this so they can get dinner out quickly and conveniently with minimal interruption to the guests or the flow of the evening. Our RSVPs had the guests initial by their meal...it was problematic when the initials were the same or when they just did a check mark. We either followed up or just guessed, they were sitting next to each other so if Mark actually wanted vegetarian and Mary wanted chicken but they were given the wrong one, they know to switch.

I had my guests initial their choice. If you have people with the same initials, they can figure it out among themselves at the table lol. We will be using letters (printed small in the corner) on the back of the escort cards to let the servers know who ordered what (B=beef C=chicken V=veggie)
