rsvp anxiety

Kim, on January 18, 2019 at 8:40 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
Anyone else stressing about not meeting their minimum guest count for the reception? Out of 156 invites we got 50 back so far. Granted we have 6 more weeks before the deadline but once we said no kids some people backed out. Anyone not meet their minimum? What happened then cost wise?

Yes! We are having a small wedding and the venue requires a minimum of 50 (which is all we wanted), so we invited 56 hoping that we will get close to it. If we don't then we will still have to pay for 50 guests. I am not going to stress over it since the venue and catering would be paid for already. I still hate to pay for people who will not be there. Grr! :/

I know! I need to check with the DOC.... She mentioned that pricing would change if we were under 130... Thinking we'd be held to that regardless Smiley sad. FH was so confident his extended family would show but some people got cranky when we said no kids.

We didn’t have a minimum but I’ve seen other people post that if their guest count was lower than the minimum they just upgraded the bar or food. Because I think it’s more about a money minimum than people.

I agree with Kelly. The venue's minimum usually applies to money not guests. As long as you're spending at least the minimum then it shouldn't matter how many guests you have. This way you can splurge on the guests who come by adding more apps, a late night snack, a better bar package, etc.

Honestly a lot of people rsvp super last minute!!! I’m sure you’ll get plenty more in the next six weeks.

My wedding is the day before yours and I’m literally at 50 RSVP’s as well lol. I think to allow them the time to rsvp and as others have stated I’d think it’s more about the money minimum vs guest count. If it come soon down to it, they should let you upgrade your food or bar package to meet their minimum

Oh wow! That might get tricky. If it gets closer to the date and its looks like you might not reach the minimum check with your venue and see what your options are. We have a 100 person minimum, and our venue said that if our rsvps come in under that, they figure out the difference and then we can use that to upgrade our bar and food options. Although we are inviting around 140 and most of them are local and family/really close friends so I think well be okay.

I'm hoping to not meet the minimum, we also said no kids, however, we do not think that will stop people. You have six more weeks, so here are some options.

    - Do you have a plan b list? If it's two weeks out and you have heard from all but 30 guests, and you still need 60 people, extend the invite to people you wanted to come but could not afford.

_ Add extra things to your menu. Upgrade the liquor package, add a late night snack. Many venues only care about the guest minimum to make a certain amount of money. Ask your venue if this is the case.
