Round tables vs Rectangular tables

Kellie, on March 15, 2017 at 4:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I would like to hear people's experiences with both table. Pro and cons. That sort of thing. Thanks Smiley smile

I personally like the look of mixing long and round tables, but after lurking on here, people have made the very valid point that long rectangular tables make it very difficult for people to have conversations. You are isolated to pretty much who is next to or across from you.

Rectangular tables are easier to arrange in my opinion. We are having them in rows at our reception.

I always had a vision of round tables, but our venue has tables included and they're long rectangular tables. I'm not sure how I will feel about it, but they look beautiful with the runners and whatnot! And less centerpieces too! Smiley winking

Same @FMM! I had a vision of round ones but now that we're doing a backyard reception, the long rectangle tables are calling my name. They look beautiful when they're nicely set.

Exactly! I love the way the rectangular ones look but am afraid about the conversation aspect. But hopefully most people will be out on the dance floor instead of at tables Smiley winking

However I feel like it was hard to talk to people across the round table and was mostly just talking to the people next to me

We are doing a mix! Love the look of the long tables. People will only be sitting for an hour or so during dinner so I don't think the conversation thing is a big deal. I also like that we have more seating arrangement options due to the different sizes. Bigger families will be seated at a long table and smaller ones at a round table. Good luck!

@ErinWood. That is a great idea since my family is double the size of his!

My venue offers both. While I like the look of long tables, we're doing round for the reasons mentioned above (it's more intimate). Plus it's space-saving. Our venue is a tent that isn't gigantic (max of 150 people) and I want to maximize the number of people per table while leaving room for people to move around.

We just went to a wedding with rectangular tables. When we first walked in, I LOVED how the rectangular tables looked but after sitting through the dinner, I'll be using round tables at ours. Our venue offers both so we've been torn until now. It's impossible to have fluid conversation at a rectangular table. I sat in between FH and one of my BMs (her husband on her other side) and I kept having to lean back and twist myself back and forth to speak with them. You really could only have a conversation with one person at a time. And the person across from you, nope! Especially not with flowers and food in between, you couldn't really hear them across the table. Hope that helps a bit!

@md421 AWESOME Mets pic! FH and I are big fans Smiley smile

I strongly prefer round because it's easier for conversation! There's nothing more frustrating for me than being on the end of a rectangular table and being unable to talk to my friends on the other side during dinner or when we are just taking a rest between partying!
