Rough timeline - is this good??

Kristen, on July 1, 2019 at 1:54 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
Guests may begin arrival at 2:45
Ceremony begins 3:30 sharp
Cocktail hour 4:00-5:00 (h’ors d’oeuvres served, bar open)
*allowing a few mins for guests to walk into other room and be seated*
5:05 wedding party entrance
First dance 5:10
Toasts from MOH and BM 5:15
Dinner as soon as toasts are done
Father daughter & mother son combined dance 6:00
Cake cutting immediately after that dance
Shoe game 7:00
Bubble sendoff 7:45

Is there anything huge I forgot and does this sound ok or should we nix/move the shoe game??

This seems like a pretty good timeline to me. I like the shoe game personally, but if time doesn't allow, that's the one thing you could leave out.

You aren't doing bouquet and garter tosses?

Nope! Only two single women invited. And FH didn’t want to do just a garter toss and no bouquet.

You don't seem to be allowing much time for dinner. Are you on a shortened timeline for some reason? Do you only have your venue for 4 hours? Otherwise it looks ok.

We only have 4 hours for the reception, including cocktail hour! We can extend it but we aren’t sure we want to because of the cost.

And I was thinking people would probably still be seated and eating during the dance and we aren’t probably going to make a big deal of the cake cutting since it’s a going to be little and we have donuts too

Ok, that makes more sense then. I was thinking wow, what's the rush? But I totally understand not wanting to pay for more time if you don't have to. Your timeline looks pretty spot on. And yeah, if people are eating while the spotlight dances are going on, that will save some time. Just make sure you allow yourself enough time to eat!! Don't get yourself so busy that you miss your own dinner!

I would pay for the extra time if you can fit it in your budget. Your timeline is as good as it can be for a 3 hour reception, but I do think that it's odd to have dancing and not allow any time for your guests to participate. The dinner portion is also super rushed. If it's not in your budget, I would eliminate the shoe game to extend time for everything else.

I prefer toasts after guests have their food, I think people are less antsy and quieter since they are eating. Are you having any dancing with all your guests?

That’s the thing is was starting to see too, our cocktail hour would be shorter if it could but we are doing a lot of the photos during cocktail hour! FH and I are going to talk about extending it

Toasts were one of the things that I had no idea where to put, since most of the weddings I’ve been to recently haven’t had any (or they’ve had like 10 lol). I don’t anticipate all of my guests to be really into dancing but I would like to fit in more dancing/social time

And do you have to leave by 8 PM? I would do food after first dance, so you can combine eating & speeches. Then I'd do the cake cutting & shoe game, then parent dances open the dance floor until your sendoff.

Yes for our current timeline with the sendoff at 7:45, all guests have to be out by 8
