Room Blocks for small wedding traveling to Hawaii

Kayla, on September 28, 2019 at 4:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
I'm still wondering what my wedding classifies as: elopement or destination? I'm sending invites to our Hawaii wedding ceremony to about 30 people - most traveling from the Midwest. I already know a handful cannot attend. Should room blocks still be applied for this situation? If so, how far in advance? Or do I let guests make their own of Hawaii?

My cousin got married on the big island and she didn't block hotel rooms. She told everyone the area where they were getting married and gave suggestions of where to stay. Everyone made it a vacation so we all did our own things leading up to the wedding, then we all came together for the rehearsal, the wedding day, and brunch the day after. FH and I stayed at a really nice hotel and other guests rented houses or stayed at other hotels. It worked out well.

I would do a complimentary block before save the dates go out. In my opinion it's fun to have everyone in the same hotel!

Hey Kayla! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

Traditionally, an elopement is when the couple travel alone to get married, so what you are describing is a destination wedding albeit, an intimate one. What made you decide to get married in Hawaii? Does it have any special meaning to you as a couple?

You can definitely organize a room block in a hotel if you would like to try your best to keep all of your guests in the same vicinity. Even though this is done, your guests are under no obligation to book them and they can find their own accommodation if they choose.

We were going to go traditional big ceremony, processional, and reception, though the flow of incoming thoughts was becoming quickly overwhelming. My fiance served on HI in naval services and knows the area well. It will have special meaning to us to bring him back, and have a much more intimate celebration. To have a ceremony be a small part of it and a vacation the rest of the time seemed to be a better aligned goal and make us both excited for the planning process.

TY for everyone's ideas. Sounds like there isn't a bad way to go when planning destination.
