Room block/hotel advice

Brianna, on July 1, 2019 at 7:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hello! We are having a wedding in a tiny town but will be having a lot of out of state guests. Sadly, the nicest 4-5 star hotel is an hour away (near the airport). The hotels around the venue (10 min or less) are 2.5 star. Airbnb is not available. I have looked at an inn but I need more rooms. Would you do a room block for a hotel 1 hour away?

It couldn't hurt to set one up!

Wow that’s far. I guess you could do one for now if it doesn’t cost anything and keep looking for other options. As I get I would not want to be staying over and hour away from the event.

My venue is in the middle of nowhere. I have a block at the airport an hour away, and two other blocks 30-45 min. away. I have hired shuttles to drive people from their hotel to the wedding and back.

I wouldn't stay there as a guest unless there was a shuttle service. However, it's the guests responsibility to make their own accommodations. A hotel block is a courtesy. I would make a hotel block at the nice hotel near the airport and have a shuttle if you can afford it or if they offer it. I would also create a hotel block closer to the venue, again offering a shuttle if you can afford it or it's offered by the hotel. I had two different hotel blocks for my wedding and listed other options on my wedding website. I know some people complained that the hotel block was at an "expensive" hotel. They were not obligated to book there. I got married in the Poconos where there are tons of vacation rentals, motels and hotels. People are just lazy and complainers lol. As long as the hotel block doesn't cost you anything, set up 2 or more. Let your guests decide what meets their needs. Good luck!

I would set one up by the airport and then provide transportation for my guests. How many guests are you anticipating? You might need passenger buses.

Accommodations are the guests' responsibility, and while having a room block and providing transportation to and from your venue is nice, it's not a requirement. I would block a set of rooms off at the hotel near the airport, and let guests decide whether or not they would like to reserve them. Don't stress yourself out over this

I'd just do 2-3. One at the nice one and a few closer by.

I agree with people above - block off rooms at the nicer hotel that's an hour away and also at the 2.5-star hotel that's near the venue. Give your guests the option! You can also provide your guest with a list of some of the smaller properties nearby, like inns, so that they can choose whichever lodging option sounds best to them.
