Roles for sisters

Danyelle, on September 7, 2015 at 6:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

My sisters are quite a bit older than me and I want them part of my wedding day but not necessarily as bridesmaids. We are not having a religious wedding so having one of them do a reading wouldn't work. Has anyone come across this and if so how did you handle it?

    They can just be guests.

You can also have a secular wedding with readings. I am an atheist and we had two readings.

I would like them to have a special role in the ceremony.

Then you pretty much have readers or bridesmaids. Maybe ushers?

I agree, you could have them do a secular reading at the ceremony, such as a poem or favorite passage from a novel. You could also have them walk in first to start the processional (as moms traditionally do).

They could greet guests as they walk in to the ceremony, be your personal attendants, or do a non-religious reading (I love The Art of Marriage at this link: http://www.lemonpiedesign.co.uk/blog/wedding-readings-youve-searching ).

You can have readings in a non religious ceremony; I do this almost every week!

They can be guests. If you want to highlight them as being family, you can give them a flower pin or a corsage.
