River boat cruise reception - timing Help!~

Kayla, on August 5, 2019 at 9:41 AM Posted in Planning 0 2

We are getting married at Chapel Dulcinea at 2pm and then planning on a riverboat reception about 45 min away near downtown Austin TX, boat leaving at 5:30pm. Very intimate wedding of 50 guests. Family and close friends ( no small children). My biggest concerns are logistics and keeping everyone happy and entertained during the gap between ceremony and reception. Also we are doing a 3.5 hr cruise. I wonder if we should cruise for maybe a couple of hours and then be docked the rest of the time so any older family that may want to head out early are not trapped on the boat? Im also hoping folks stay in their formal attire and dont show up in shorts and flip flops to the reception. I guess there isnt much I can do about that though. Also the vendor asked that centerpiece be low and heavy...any ideas for that would be great! Would like to not do any heavy florals to save money for other areas.

I think that's a great idea to dock it so people can leave if they need. I went on a birthday party recently on a yacht and it was three hours and it did feel like gah such a commitment because you cant leave when you need. But anyway, low and light makes me think of small mason jars.

Hey Kayla! Congratulations on your engagement!

Your reception sounds like so much fun! Having your reception on a riverboat sounds like such a fun experience and I think your guests will have a great time! That being said, I like the idea of being docked after a couple of hours in case some of your guests would like to leave a little early.

I totally get that you need low and heavy centerpieces, you definitely don’t want them to fall over on your guests while they are eating!! Are you looking to have floral centerpieces, or are you looking for alternatives? Whether you are using florals or are mixing it up with candle centerpieces or greenery, whatever you plan on holding them, you could line the bottom with stones so that they are bottom-heavy and less likely to fall over as the boat moves.
