Rings during Ceremony

Kara, on May 22, 2018 at 10:13 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 12

So my wedding band is a... guard, wrap, enhancer.. I'm not sure what it is called exactly. But my engagement ring slides in the middle of it. I have about a year until my wedding but this is just something I was thinking about. I'm not planning on getting them soldered together. When it comes time for the ceremony - should my FH have both my engagement ring and the wedding band and he slides the engagement ring into the wedding band and places it on my finger when time? Or how should this be done? I've attached a picture I got from Kays of what my wedding band is (or at least close to it) then a picture of my ring and wedding band together.

I would recommend getting them soldered together. I also have a wrap and I soldered mine. I would never wear them separately and having them soldered keeps them from sliding around and rubbing against each other and causing damage. If you don't soldered them he should have both rings.

Hmm I didn’t think about the damage to the rings. I will definitely consider that.

If you aren't going to solder, which I would recommend to protect the settings from coming loose due to rubbing, I would only use the wrap during the ceremony to avoid fumbling. After the ceremony assemble them and go on with the day.

I have a similar wrap. I'm not soldering mine because they told me its harder to keep clean that way (probably not a big deal though).

I'm taking off my engagement ring and giving both to the best man for the ceremony so FH can put both on at once.

I think I may consider getting them soldered together. Now.. the day of the wedding I will want pictures of my ring (before the ceremony, while I’m getting ready and everything) but would it be okay for the pictures to be with the wedding band also? If that makes sense.

I have a similar question. I am gonna have them soldered together but when? Same as OP. Solder before and he puts both rings on or he slides engagement ring in and then puts it on? And if solder before, when? Not liking the idea of being without my E ring but if soldered before wedding do u still wear both before the wedding or not wear it until the wedding?

I don't think soldering is ever a great idea, personally.

Most people just wear their engagement rings on their right hands for the ceremony, and switch it to the left hand afterwards.

My rings are shaped so they fit together. They didn't have to be soldered, but unsoldered they did shift and not stay together as well as I liked. I had them soldered 30+ yrs ago and have never regretted it. (I had them soldered by a local jeweler the week before the wedding and picked them up 2-3 days before the ceremony. It wasn't long enough to feel like I was missing out on wearing them....) The style of your wedding ring doesn't seem to be one that you'd likely wear alone without the engagement ring, and unless you think after the wedding you'll sometimes want to wear just your engagement ring, I'd probably solder.

I have two slim bands (the pic below was in the store, they had very small bands so I tried them on my pinky). I was thinking that I would put my engagement ring in the ring box for the ceremony and that he would slide all 3 on together at the same time. I don't plan on getting my rings soldered together because I like have the flexibility of wearing one of the bands alone.

I had mine soldered before the wedding. We took them in about 3 weeks before the wedding because we wanted to be sure they were ready for the wedding. I missed my ring so much and couldn't wait to be able to wear it again.
