Ring Warming Ceremony Verbiage

Noël, on January 18, 2015 at 8:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I know ring warming has been a common topic on the threads these days, so thought I would share with those of you who are considering incorporating it into your ceremony. My officiant hasn't done one before, so she was really hesitant to work it in. But, we talked through logistics, and we're on the same page. Because we anticipate more than 100 guests, we're limiting the passing of the rings to our immediate family in the first couple rows. Here's our verbiage, and the basic flow of how we plan to do it.

Ring Warming Announcement - after her intro, towards the beginning of the ceremony:

As the ceremony proceeds, will the families of Noel and Matthew please warm these rings by passing them down the row. Hold them for but a moment and warm them
with your love, making a silent wish for the future this couple will
share. These rings will not only be a gift from one to another but will be given with the love, support and wisdom of their families.

When returned, these rings will contain in them your love, hope, and pledge of
support for their union.

Then the ceremony will continue with some non-attention needed words. Meanwhile, the rings will be passed from my maid of honor (who will carry them in a pouch on her bouquet) to our first, closest family member. They'll make it down the line, and picked up by the best man, who will pass them to the officiant.

THEN, our officiant will head into the blessing of the rings. Our verbiage is this:

These rings, now warmed by those you love the most, will forever show the world you are encircled by the love and blessings of family and friends and that the two of you are now of one heart.

For thousands of years, lovers have exchanged rings as a token of their vows. Let these rings be a sign that love has a past, a present, and a future through you and within you. These wedding rings you give and receive this day reflect the circle of shared love into which you enter as partners in life. Just as these rings have no points of weakness, may your union be strong, and may you be blessed with joy as you journey through life together surrounded by the circle of your love.

Then final blessing, announcing us as married and the kiss. So, that's how we're doing it... thought it might help some of you out there who are also considering it.

And I love you for it! I sent your post to my fiance and it gave us the confidence we needed to push back on our officiant and insist we make it a part of our ceremony. I even brought a printout to our vow-writing meeting and read some parts verbatim.

A hearty thanks to you, Celia, for all the guidance you give us.

^ I had to read this sentence twice because the first time I didn't see the comma. Make sure your officiant pauses there, LOL!
