Ring Soldering

annakac, on November 7, 2018 at 9:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I am planning on getting my rings soldered because the bands have matching diamonds on the top half that I would really like to be aligned. For those of you that chose to solder, did you do it before or after your wedding? Roughly how much did it cost? And did you get it done at the same place that you purchased your rings from? I got both of my rings from James Allen and they quoted $150 so I want to make sure that is reasonable.

    Hello annakac!

I did some research on the cost of soldering rings and it seems the price is based off of a couple of factors:

-How much larger/smaller it needs to be

-What the metal is made of and how much of it has to be manipulated

-How the stones and design elements will effect the new shape

    * Above information from Jewelers Mutual Insurance Group

I'd recommend going to a couple of local jewelry shops and getting a quotes! It might be helpful to get an idea of what other businesses would charge to compare against the quote James Allen gave you!

I got them soldered after the wedding and it didn't cost me a dime since I went to the jeweler we purchased both rings from!

I can't weigh in on the price part of the question because it is included in my protection plan that FH got when he bought the ring. But I got my soldered together and got them back about a month ago. Our wedding is this Monday (5 days!!!). I work at a vets office as an assistant so I chose to get mine soldered together before the wedding and they cleaned them up really nice cause my engagement ring had lost the shine when compared to the wedding band thats been kept in the box. I love my soldered ring and have worn it a bit, its nice not having to worry about keeping them aligned. I also had them both sized down half a size. This is my engagement ring and my wedding band is a thin diamond topped band that curves along the side of the engagement ring. It was tough to keep them aligned prior to getting them soldered.

Our wedding was October 20th and I am just dropping them off to be soldered at the jeweler this afternoon. There is no cost to us since we purchased them there. I really didn't want to be without my ring for an extended period of time. We are going to Mexico this weekend and weren't going to take any jewelry along anyway, so this seemed like the perfect time to get it done.

I had mine soldered prior to our wedding, but it didn't cost anything as it was included with the lifetime warranty on the set. Just got them back last week, so it's been hard not having my engagement ring on and still have 16 days before our wedding. I can't wait until I finally get to wear it again!!

RING TWINS! We actually got another band from the set to go on top of the ring, to make it like more of an enhancer and I don't plan on having mine soldered.
