Ring scratched!!

Lilly, on March 25, 2018 at 10:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 13
I just got engaged last weekend and I found that my ring was too big. Obviously the plan is to get it resized very soon, but I figured I would put on one of those rubber tighteners so my ring wouldn’t be moving around. I looked very closely and it seemed like there were scratches on my 14k white gold ring already!! Can this be possible? I’ve only worn it for a week how is my ring already scratched?

No problem!! It didn’t look scratched when I first got it. Once I took off the rubber spacer that’s when I noticed! Is it possible for rubber to damage gold that easily?! It seems impossible to me.. maybe they aren’t scratches?

I'm literally going through this same thing... I got my engagement ring upgrade on Tuesday... I had it resized before I got it and this morning I noticed scratches on it... mine is also 14k white gold.... kinda bummed but you can't even notice it unless you're looking at it really close!

Bummer!! My 14k white gold ring band is scratched too Smiley sad I think it's because it's a softer metal?

Hi all! My parents actually own a jewelry store and they shouldn't actually be scratched. They dip white gold into a rhodium finish and that can get scratched. It helps white. Gold keep its color. So if you take it and have it polished, that should go right away! If they are scratched, then I would talk to your jeweler because that should happen easily with white gold.

Thank you!!! I hope this is true. I’m sure whenever I get it resized it’ll be cleaned as well so I will see if they go away! Aside from any obvious resizing markings

After just wearing a ring once you will most likely see some small scratches. Think of all the things we touch with our hands.

I got engaged in September and I also have a 14k white gold band and noticed some scratches on the bottom probably from me hitting it but it was fine as soon as it was professionally cleaned!

I mentioned to my FH I’d like a 10k white gold ring, because I work a lot with my hands, and I’ve bent/damaged rings before! I’m hoping I’ll be able to keep this one safe, but just wanted the stronger metal for some peace of mind! 😇
Here’s some pictures for fun ☺️ I will just say, I love love love my ring. It’s so perfect. Everything I could’ve ever wanted in an engagement ring - it’s only fitting because FH is the best, so confident about this decision to marry him😊

Mine is 18K white gold and the rhodium finish wears off very quickly. If it’s truly scratched it can be buffed out, but the rhodium should take care of it. I caught my ring on the underside of our stove trying to pick something off the floor and it scratched up the prongs to the point where they were rough. The jeweler was able to buff it out in a couple of minutes. I’ve been engaged for almost two years and had it redipped once. I’ll do it again right before the wedding so that it wears at the same rate as my wedding band.

So I’ve been wearing my E-ring since November 25th and I already wore The rhodium plating off of the white gold in a spot. Gold is actually a pretty soft metal and white gold is plated with rhodium because white gold still has a yellow tint to it. Both of these scratch and scuff easily but can be buffed out or re-plated. The only issue with buffing gold is that you lose weight in doing so, unlike with palladium or platinum. These are much harder metals and can be buffed without any metal loss. This is also why you shouldn’t ever wear platinum and gold rings on the same finger because the platinum ring will slowly “eat” the metal off of your gold ring.
