Ring resizing

Futuremrsk, on May 10, 2017 at 6:48 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Hi everyone! I have a question about getting my ering resized. It is a little too big, it spins around on my finger and if i wash my hands it becomes very loose. I know i need it resized and am going to the jeweler later this week. I spoke with a woman I babysit for and she mentioned just trying on some wedding bands while I am there along with my ering to get the proper fit. She said her ering fit differently at different parts of her finger so when she had her bands added she had to get the ering resized again. Has anyone had this happen, is this a good suggestion? I plan on talking to the jeweler about this as well, and I want to look at bands anayway because I am excited. Just curious if anyone has any thoughts or experiences with this? Thanks!

I had to get mine a little bigger because my finger swells in the Ohio heat/humidity. For me the base of my finger is smaller than right below my knuckle. My e-ring does spin a little but it doesn't come off. It should be the right size for my wedding band.

I was told that my ring might stop spinning when I had my wedding ring, or I could have them attached. I had sizing beads added to my e-ring. It took a couple of days to get used to, but should my ring size change, it will be a lot easier to remove the beads than to add to the ring.

@olivia, I'm not so concerned about the spinning, I have other rings that do that. Its the almost falling off afyer I wash my hands or if I shake my hand hard enough the ring almost flies off. It slides down to my middle knuckle and there have been times where I was afraid it was going to go flying off! Im hoping that if I resize it down just a little and then get a properly sized band to go with it, it will help.

We get humid summers here so that is a concern as well, however my hands don't usually swell, its my feet!

My Ering also would spin from time to time and our jeweler suggested adding balls to it to help the fit, which I did and it worked perfectly. I didn't want to resize it completely because I'm losing weight and I didn't want to have to keep changing it.

@melanie and Anna, I have never heard of the sizing balls/beads before. I will have to ask my jeweler about those! That may be an option for me, at least until I pick out a band and can get it all properly fit with everything.

Thanks everyone for the input! I appreciate it! Smiley smile

I had never heard of them before either, it made me so nervous when he was talking about adding things to the ring but it worked amazing and the ring still fits good whether my hands are swollen/puffy or not

My ering needs to be resized as well. We just picked out our wedding bands and waiting for them to come in. In the meantime, I bought those ring snuggles. They are small plastic sleeves which slide onto the ring. I've been wearing this until I can get my ring sized closer to my wedding date.

Same here @FutureMrs. My ring kept sliding off and I didn't want to resize until I took my ring in to have it soldered to my band. Rings twisting in different directions bug me to no end.

The fit of my ring varies daily depending on the weather and in Florida that can change hourly. My ring fits great unless it's kinda cold out, then it spins ALOT. My jewelry told me to wait till my wedding band comes in and if I still have an issue to have them sized together

I work with jewellery and when you get the wedding band it does fit tighter. Its because the band is wider then. Depending on how wide your wedding band is, I usually see the ring size going up a quarter to a half a size. Ex: without the wedding band the ring fits at a 7, but with the wedding band its a 7.25 or 7.5.

Your ring shouldn't spin. Go back to the jeweler. Try a ring insert.

That makes sense but I also heard your wedding band should be a bit bigger than the ering. My ering has been sized but with the weather it's getting a bit looser. I think I'll leave it as is.

Same issue, though in the summer my ring fits much better. Definitely wait until you wear it with the band.

Sizing beads are a great option because they can be removed. I decided to wait to see how it fits with the band.

My co-worker got a band for each side of the e-ring which caused it to fit differently with the 3rd band on. So something to take into consideration if you getting more than 1 band. I haven't heard that with only 1 band though but I guess it would depend on how thick that band is too.

My ering fit perfectly and when i added the wedding band it felt a little tight. Your friend has a good point about the ring fitting differently where they are at on your finger. I would do what she suggested with trying on bands. It made a world of difference on mine.

Sometimes my ring spins and other times it's snug. Before resizing, take finger swelling into consideration.

I am glad that I am not the only one who has had sizing problems! Thank you for all the suggestions! I am going to the jeweler tomorrow and going to talk with them about all my options. All I know for sure right now is that it is definitely too big right now and I am seriously worried about it flying off at this point. I have been SUPER careful but it is something I'd rather not have to stress about(have enough of that as is!) . Thanks again for all the input. I will update with what the jeweler says when I go see him!!

Mine is the same way and I ordered a size adjuster rather than having it sized: https://www.amazon.com/MumCraft-Adjuster-Silver-Polishing-Cloth/dp/B01NBUZPZP/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_261_lp_img_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ZB2QE6G32B88EP0Q76FF

I'm really glad I did because it feels so much more secure now. I didn't want to size it because I wanted to see how it fit during the summer months and I know once we start having kids, my hands will swell as well.

I'd wait until you've experienced the summer heat with it on - cause your fingers will swell. Also try it with a band, because that will change the way your rings fit too.

I thought about getting mine resized down - because in the winter my ring got super loose, but now that its summer again I'm glad I didn't!

I had this same problem with mine, I got a ring guard put on and it fits perfectly.
