Ring Regret

Kimberly, on June 15, 2014 at 9:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

I LOVE my e-ring. I picked it out with FH and it's platinum. BUT now we are looking for our wedding bands and I'm feeling sad because it's just not in our budget to get anything more than a plain band because it has to be platinum.

If I had chosen a different metal I would have so many more band options. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes! Mine is platinum, too! I love it, but mine will have to be a plain band as well.

Look at it this way, you get the plain band now, and then have an opportunity to upgrade to something fancier at a big anniversary!

We picked my set from Gemvara in sterling silver and a cheaper stone because it's what we can afford and in a few years I will upgrade when we have the money. Maybe you can get a plain one now and upgrade later too?

@ Jessica - Gemvara has some pretty jewelry! I guess I like the idea of upgrading on an anniversary.

I chose to have a plain platinum band to match my solitaire platinum engagement ring. I think it's so classic--there's nothing trendy about my rings.

@ Amie - that's a good point. I have been drooling over a platinum band with diamonds and sapphires, but I know a plain band will look more classic. Plus it'll match anything.

My girlfriend has a platinumengagement ring and a white gold wedding band, and you really can't tell the difference. Wish I had a picture to show you. Try some one and see if you notice.

@ MrsSinatra - Does she have to polish/clean them often? I heard that white gold can start to look different next to platinum if you don't keep up with polishing them.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a plain band next to an e-ring made of the same metal. My bestfriend's (MOH) rings are a simple yellow gold e-ring and a plain yellow gold band and they look very classy together. It really fits her personality. Mine are platinum and flashy, but that's my personality.

Edit: I'd like to add I wear a white gold college ring on my right hand and my e-ring is platinum and you can definitely tell a difference. You can see that the white gold is not completely silver next to something as bright as platinum, but they are on two hands so it's not that big of a deal. If they were up against each other, I think you could tell the difference.

Not that I know of. They have been married since 2005 and I've never once thought it looked different. She is chasing after 2 little kids all the time, so I doubt she has time to polish her ring that often.

My e ring is platinum and my band is WG and diamonds. You can't tell the difference. The jeweler said that the only noticeable difference may be how they wear (meaning the band may need re dipped). We went for it and it looks great. I wouldn't rule it out, go try on some bands in WG.

Exactly. WG is easy to re-dip should you need to. I've had my WG e-ring for almost a year and take it in for monthly cleanings at the jeweler and the silver tone has not worn down one bit. However, I think a plain platinum band is quite stunning. Or have you tried looking at Palladium? It might be a little less expensive than Platinum.
