Ring redipped cost?

FutureStephD, on February 11, 2019 at 3:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hello, does anyone know about how much it costs to have a ring inspected, cleaned and re-dipped (replated)?

FH purchased my ring from James Allen a year ago and while they have a "free prong tightening, repolishing, rhodium plating and cleaning every six months" James Allen won't let ME get this done (b/c according to them it's his ring and account) and FH is worried about getting it there and back in time for the wedding. Plus it's $30 to send it there and back so curious if it's cheaper/ the same to have it done elsewhere.

Also, how often do people have their (white gold) ring redipped/ plated?

Thanks!

I know nothing about getting it redipped but my ring is from James Allen and got a crack in the band 3 and a half weeks before my wedding. I sent it in and they had it fixed and back to me within 2 weeks. So if you’re worried about not getting it back in time just wanted to share my personal experience that they are quick! I would double check with them that it won’t void the warranty getting it done elsewhere. But my ring isn’t gold so I can’t comment about getting it dipped.

That seems odd to me they won't let you get that done...even though FH bought the ring, my name is on the jewelers account and I can go in any time with or without FH. Is the place he bought it not within close driving distance to you?

To answer your question about re-dipping, my jeweler told me it really varies by person and how much they use their hands while wearing their ring. He said he has a nurse who gets it done every year because of how often she washes her hands, but another customer who hasn't had it done in 30 years!

I get mine re-dipped once a year, usually. All of mine is covered in my warranty, but a friend of mine told me hers cost $150 to dip and repair a prong (although I'm not sure how much of it was dipping alone)!

Unfortunately, we live in Chicago and James Allen is based in NYC. While I go to NYC a ton for work, I won't be there before the wedding. (But I will a few weeks after. Hah. Maybe I should just wait)

They did let me pay the $30 to get it shipped to them and back, but they sent the wrong shipping label to his email and they won't let me do anything. I'm surprised too b/c they're usually really good with customer service! I'll ask him to add me to the account - maybe that's a thing with them. Thanks!!

Getting a ring cleaned should be free at any jewelry store and takes only few minutes. Not sure about getting it re-dipped though.

Does he need to do that for the warranty through them? I take my ring to a local jewelry and they clean it for free, I didn't even buy it there. They check the prongs & steam clean the ring. So they don't tighten or polish, so I'm not sure what that would cost. I would call local stores and get quotes.

If you'll be there shortly after the wedding I would wait on getting it re-dipped and just go to a jeweler to get it cleaned they will do that for free.

My jeweler redipped it for me at no charge just before the wedding so about 10 months after I got it. I've read other places that it usually runs about $30-$40.
You mentioned you might wait until you are in NYC after the wedding to get it done but I'd send it out now. You'll want your rings at their sparkly best for photos! Having mine done took out the wear and tear scratches that tend to happen on the back. Kelly said they were pretty fast for her and you have about a month and a half so I would think you'd be good with time. It takes no time to dip a ring. My jeweler did it while I waited in his shop.

Daughter had her e-ring re-dipped and soldered to her wedding ring at an independent jeweler for a total of $50 (in So Cal).

Jared charges $70 I believe and you can have it done that day, or at least the next day if they’re busy. i would also check local jewelers.

My ring is from James Allen, and they haven’t given me a hard time about not being the “owner” of the ring. That being said, my FH has an account online and I just do anything (like orders for resize) through his account. I’ve called them a lot and they never hesitate giving me status info.

I fecently had had my ring resized and called them to plead my case to have it shipped back before family came for a weekend and they got it to me 3 days earlier than expected! If you explain the issue to them they will probably do everything they can to help!
