Ring prongs look black?

Nina, on July 6, 2020 at 9:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Today we picked up a new setting for my engagement ring and once we got in the car, I realized that the top of my prongs look black?! My original setting didn’t give off that coloring and now that’s all I see when I look down. Does the coloring look off or is it just shadowing? Did anyone else experience this?

Your ring is beautiful! I wouldn't have thought anything of it if you hadn't mentioned it, but the prongs do look a bit dark to me. If you were expecting them to be a regular white gold/platinum, you should probably talk to the jeweler about it.

    Are they gold or silver?
I have a silver necklace that got dark spots and I brought it in to the jeweler to get polished. It looked great when they were done.

The ring is absolutely gorgeous. The prongs look super noticeable but i don’t know if that’s cause they actually are or cause you pointed them out. If you’re not happy with the way it looks, take it back for sure. You’re the one the has to look at it

Huh, they do look a little dark. That seems like an easy fix if you ask for them to re-plate it! It’s normal to have to do that on a semi regular basis with white gold anyway.

    Gorgeous ring!

It looks dark in the first picture but not as much in the second. Maybe it just needs to be cleaned? You'd be surprised how dirty rings get! although I'm surprised if they didn't clean it themselves before you picked it up. Good luck!

They don’t look black, just darker. My engagement ring and wedding band are both white gold, however they have a different tone (engagement ring is darker than the wedding band)

Your ring is beautiful!! 😍💍 I don't think they look black and it looks like the prongs match the smaller prongs on the rest of the band, but it's weird that you noticed a difference!

Does it help if you clean your ring? Or did your ring come back cleaned and therefore look a little different? I'm always blinded by my rings when I get them professional cleaned, and they definitely look lighter!
