Ring Dilemma

Kathryn, on November 21, 2019 at 4:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
So this site always proves to be a wealth of suggestions, so I have a new question for you guys. My engagement ring was too small when we picked it out, so we had it resized before my FH could propose. But now it's too big! I think the ring sizer they use is just crap, so I made sure to get resized and note that I need a half size smaller. When we were picking wedding bands, the salesman mentioned getting them soldered together.

So I do need to send my engagement ring in to get resized- I have a spacer on it right now so it doesn't spin. I also need to send in my new band at the same time so they can guarantee everything is fitting together. Buuuut....do I get it soldered at that point? It means I will be wearing my wedding band early, but the alternative is to send in both bands again after the wedding. Has anyone run into this dilemma before? Should I just hold off and hope the rings all fit together and stay together?

Is getting them soldered together something you want? Our jeweler said I could but I chose not to in case I want to wear one or the other. My engagement ring is a high setting so depending on what I’m doing sometimes I only wear my band. If you are looking to get them soldered together, I’d personally get them done after the wedding so that you aren’t wearing both. Again this is really personal preference.

Ring Dilemma 1My ring is a high setting, so maybe it would be better to not solder them. It just made sense to me because I don't think I'll ever want to not wear them both. Also I picked an enhancer as my wedding band so its equal on both sides, so I think it makes more sense to go ahead and band them together.

I agree with literally all of this lol. I don't want to have mine soldered together for the same reason as Sarah, but if I were to have them soldered, I would do it after the wedding!

If I were you I would go to a better jeweler who can measure properly and make sure they’re both the right size and the same size! lol

I didn't solder mine either for the same reasons. If you want to though I don't think it matters when you do it (before or after).

I guess it depends on how important it is to you that you don’t wear your wedding band before the wedding. I’m having mine soldered after.

I would go to another jeweler before you decided on anything. It can sometimes damage the integrity of the ring if it’s resized numerous times. You want to make sure the settings are getting loose, and that the size you’ve been told is the correct size. I’m not one who thinks rings should be soldered, but that’s a personal decision. Either way I would wait until after the wedding and have it done by a reputable jeweler. Honestly, the fact that they’re telling you they need both rings to make sure they’ll fit together is a big red flag. Ring sizes shouldn’t change ever as they are a set value, so whether they’re soldered or not shouldn’t make a difference.

My e ring is too big. I'm waiting until after the wedding to get it sized and determine if I want them soldered or not. I don't want to be without them more than I have to. lol

I chose to not have mine soldered together so that I could wear only the band if I wanted to later on.
