Ring crazy

Jennifer , on January 24, 2020 at 3:25 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11
So we are an odd couple! This is the second wedding for both of us. We booked our venue January of last year. Problem is, well not really a problem, BUT I don't have a ring! We are deep in the planning mode, it just doesn't feel quite real yet. I want a 1ct. Vintage style. Where did everybody fine their best deals? We don't want to buy online because we can't see the diamond. Plus places are wishy washy to say lab created or simulated. I wouldn't mind a lab created one. Please help!!

My engagement ring and both of our wedding bands came from Reeds Jewelers . FH bought my engagement ring online, but when we went in-store to shop for wedding bands, we did see some of the loose lab created diamonds that they sell and they were gorgeous. They've always been so nice and so helpful when we've gone in there, even when I just stop buy to have my ring cleaned. Can't recommend them enough!

Make sure to go around a big engagement/jewelry giving holiday like Valentine’s Day , Mother’s Day, etc... that’s when they have their best deals.

That's what we were thinking. We were looking around Thanksgiving and one place said their best deal was soon at 40% off. Lol, we specifically said we weren't purchasing yet

I've heard good things from James Allen and Blue Nile, and how they offer GIA diamonds.

I've read previous WW forums that big places like Zales, Jared's, etc, swapping out your diamonds for cheaper versions which is scary! It also happened a few years ago, so I don't think they're still doing it...but who knows. My FH also told me he did a lot of research and those places surcharge 50-100% the true cost.

He went to Padani jewelers, local in LA, where he could go see GIA certified diamonds in person.

We went to a local jewelry store and had my ring made to suit exactly what I wanted.

I am afraid that might be too much money for us. Great idea though!

My FH got my engagement ring from JamesAllen. Their customer service is top notch. Even though you can’t see the diamonds in person, they do have helpful information along of the way when creating your ring so that you pick a diamond that best suits you (color, clarity, size or whatever criteria is most important to you). I would highly recommend them. Plus your ring comes with an appraisal, so no question about authenticity.

It was actually cheaper than buying it from the designer. We had the jeweler make a knock off

I lusted after one at Costco. It he bought where I’d never go and that was a mall jeweler chain. I agree with previous -lots of market up. Still dream about that ring! Lol.
