Ring cleaning

Meghan, on August 8, 2019 at 8:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22
Does anyone clean their ring at home, or just do the 6 month cleaning?

I only clean mine at home. I got one of those magnasonic jewelry cleaners on amazon and it works great.

I do it when I take my rings in for warranty checks. I should probably do something else, too, though.

I clean my ring at home. I found this great video on YoutTube.

Salt, baking soda, hot water mix the 3 into a creamy paste and script with toothbrush

If you have a warranty or insurance policy on your ring, you may have to go in every so often so your policy doesn’t lapse. I clean mine at home but it’s also been cleaned at the jewelers (since I bent a prong and they had to fix it!).

I clean mine at home and I recently got it cleaned at a ring shop at my local mall because they clean it for free while I was looking at wedding bands! It's still super shiny and that was like 3 weeks ago

I get my cleaned professionally every 3 months, because they check the prongs to make sure the ring is still secure. I clean at home whenever I notice it needs it too. I'm thinking about getting the steam cleaner for jewelry on Amazon but I'll probably still take it in every 6 months or so.

I use a regular jewelry cleaner about once a week at home. I've had my engagement ring for a year and a half and I only brought it in once to be cleaned (before engagement photos).

I'm just worried I would get the wrong product and somehow damage it. Yours still looks new/shiny though?

Right! I'm worried with using regular soap/lotion etc when my ring is on that it doesn't look as it did when I first got it :/ could just be me over thinking

Yes, I'm definitely gonna have to go to the jeweler every six months to keep the warranty and everything with them. Just worried that might not be enough sometimes? Especially knowing that lotions and other products could dull the shine

Oh wow, that's different! Have you heard good things about steam cleaning it?

Be careful with over-cleaning. If it is white gold, over-cleaning can remove the rhodium, which is what makes it shiny and white. Also, the ultrasonic cleaners can knock stones loose (especially smaller stones), so be careful of those.

I just get it cleaned whenever it starts looking dingy (I have gotten it cleaned once in 17 months and I wear it every day. The main reason it was cleaned was because the jeweler already had it to make the custom wedding band to match it). My mom and uncle are jewelry wholesalers and have been in the jewelry business for years. Their jeweler doesn't recommend cleaning it often.

Thanks so much for your input! I wasn't sure if just 6 months would be enough, but also, like you said, I don't wanna over clean it.
My FH's one friend is also engaged and his fiancée said her ring band was starting to change colors

The jeweler my FH got the ring from gave me one of those cylinder tubs with the tray and brush with the chemical cleaner in it! It works nice and then I also use my little cleaning material squares that came in my pandora bracelet cleaning kit to shine it up more after I’m done!
