Ring bearer age?

Meagan, on December 9, 2018 at 10:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16
So we have been thinking about a ring bearer. We have no young boys in our family. Were the first of our generation to be getting married so not too many kids in the family yet. We do have a flower girl however. She will be 6 at the time of the wedding. We were thinking about asking her older cousin to be the ring bearer. However he will be 12 I believe. So I'm thinking 12 will be too old! However do people do junior groomsmen? Is that a thing? Wr are inviting him to keep our flower girl company because even though there is a huge age difference he is really fabulous with her. We are having no other kids at the wedding. So like I was saying ... should we ask him to be a part of the wedding? And if so what title or job can we give him? Can he be an older ring bearer? What do you guys think?

I think 12 is a good age. You can make him more cool than cute, like ring security and sunglasses.

We are having the same problem.
    We have zero little kids.
We are having our grandmas be the flower girls and his grandpa be the ring bearer

But I think under 15 is fine to be the ring bearer. He will be happy to have a special job

I don’t think 12 is too old at all! We are having my niece and nephew as the flower girl/ring “security”. The flower girl is 8, and ring security is 14 years old!

I'm not having either at my wedding and I feel like the tradition is starting to die out as there have only been 2 weddings in 2 years with people who actually had them (out of over 10 weddings) You do not need a ring bearer by any means. If you feel the kid won't want to do it, don't make him just because you want it for pictures.

Following this because we have no young girls in our families. I was thinking about making my f.hs 13 yr old daughter our flower girl. I'm not sure if that's too old or not.

I have two ring bearers my son who's 8 and f.hs son 5. F.h and I thought it would be fair for both of them to participate. But I have no flower girl.

I was in a similar situation as you. But it was a very easy decision to just have junior groomsmen and Junior Bridesmaids. All of them are 12 but they love responsibility. I personally think that 12 is too old to be a ring bearer. They will love the responsibility! They will also hold onto the rings as their biggest responsibility. I trust them and know they can handle it! So therefore, please do what you feel it’s your wedding but maybe you could find another responsibility for them. You got this!

I don't see what the big deal is. My grandson was 22 when I got married, and since he still lives with his father and has never had a job, I made sure to put him to work as a ring bearer. As long as they are old enough to not try to eat the ring and choke on it, it should be fine.
