Ribbon wands - buy or make?

Brooke, on September 2, 2016 at 8:55 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 23

Anyone make their own ribbon wands? Was it a giant pain in the ass? Should I just buy them? I can get 100 on etsy for like 75 bucks but that seems like a giant waste of money for ribbon on a stick. At the same time the thought of making 100 ribbon wands makes me squirm, and not in the good way.

I didn't make any but there is a tutorial on Pinterest and they look super easy. I would save the money to buy a bottle of wine and get crafting. Good luck!

I'm guessing by the time you buy the wands/dowel and the ribbons, and factor in your time - Etsy's price doesn't sound that bad.

I agree with JamieLynn, and if you're already dreading the project I think the money will be well spent.

    ETA: Ah! GreeneBunny, that's awesome!

I made them. I bought the ribbon as it went on sale. I made about 60 with three different types of ribbons, added a small bell, and hot glued on a dowel rod. It did take some time, but if you break it up into a few days, it's really not that bad. The prices on etsy are pretty crazy for the wands I think. However for the amount of time I spent, they really did not get used much and I didn't get the pictures I dreamed of having with them either.

Liz about how much did you spend for the ones you made if you don't mind me asking?

I made 75 ribbon wands and enjoyed doing it but I also did them months in advance. I had many DIY's and planned them throughout the year and made sure I was done with everything by Sept 1st. I had my container of stuff by the couch and would do them at night when I sat down to watch a movie. At this point you need to take stock of what all you need to do and whether this could be a stress. That alone would be reason to buy.

I'm in the same boat. I plan on doing my first diy project tomorrow. My daughter is crafty and I have the materials so I will see how that goes. I was told by FH no more spending on etsy...lol

I would lean towards buying. I'm not super crafty, and am happy to support people who are!

We bought ours, and I'm so glad we did! We didn't have time to mess with that, with all the other DIY projects we had, and it turned out we wouldn't have saved that much, even if we did do it ourselves...LOL! We got them on Amazon. It was a few packs of 30 for $16.50 each! =) ETA: they also came in other colors besides purple! =)

I made mine. I went to Joanns, got the long sticks (by the bulsa wood), ribbon, and E6000. I spent $25 using coupons (i split my order intoa few abd used a coupon for every item). They took me a hour or so to make.

I'd say I spent under $30 for everything. Bought mostly everything at Michaels and watched for sales.

I would go add up pricing for supplies (look for sale items like Liz K.) and figure out which is cheaper--Etsy or DIY.

We bought ours! They were mint, coral and ivory lace with bell. I can't imagine having to make them and we did a lot of DIY for the wedding
