Ribbon Backdrop

Kendra, on May 7, 2017 at 6:28 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

So I left some DIYs til the last minute...I'd like to make a ribbon backdrop for our ceremony (see pic). Has anyone done this? Any dos, don'ts, tips, or tricks?

Is your ceremony indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony is in a covered outdoor area--they call it the trellis. there are beams we can hang things from

Not to be a Debbie downer but if you are getting married in an outdoor covered area have you thought about Origami cranes? It would allow more of the gorgeous outdoor area to be seen, the bird would fit the venue, and they are supposed to signify good luck for the marriage. Just throwing an idea out there...

If you are going to do ribbons outside, you need to weight them at the bottom; I spend someone's entire ceremony untangle us from an octopus of ribbons. Or make them long enough to nail into the ground.

And step away from hobby lobby. Bad policies for women. Seems to be a trend now.

I also love the origami crane idea! I've had a few couples use them, and they DO allow for more of a view. But that's a lot of folding between now and then!

Origami crane, or some type of lantern is a great idea! I feel like the ribbons would just tangle outdoors, this makes me think more photo booth than wedding backdrop

I made one of these as a photo backdrop for my daughters sweet 16. I stead of ribbons i bought pretty fabric and cut it into strips. It is a time consuming DIY. It looks best when it can be against a wall. But if you use alot of ribbon/fabric and have them pushed close together it would probably look good just free standing.

Thanks guys! I should clarify, our venue has had some recent renovations and the space is now completely enclosed. I like the paper crane idea but it doesn't really go with our theme (stars and galaxies) but I might try some stars or lanterns!

@Kendra as long as it's enclosed you'll probably be fine you avoid the tangling! Have fun crafting!!
