Ribbon aisle marker for an outdoor wedding?

Elizabeth, on February 18, 2018 at 1:12 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

Our wedding is at a venue that has this adorable little garden out front that you can do the ceremony in if you like. We love it so, so much. We're trying to keep the decor on the simple side, so we don't really like the idea of doing aisle markers that hang off the chairs or anything like that. Nor can we do flower petals because of the venue's rules (outside MUST be real petals and inside MUST be fake- since we won't know until like day night before if we'll have to move inside, petals are just not happening.)

We thought about marking the sides of the aisle with ribbon. What I mean by this is like, stretching a piece of white ribbon along the edge of the rows of chairs so that each edge of the aisle is clearly marked along the grass. Basically, what lots of people do with the flower petals but with ribbon, like this:

My question is.... how can we "pin" the ribbon into the grass so that it actually stays down and is also not a tripping hazard? Would sewing pins be strong enough if we used enough of them along the edges of the ribbon that there wouldn't be enough space between pins for feet to get underneath and trip/pull out the pins?

Sewing pins probably wouldn’t be. But t-pins might.

    T-pins or tent stakes.

Sewing pins or craft T pins would be next to useless. They aren't long enough to get into the sod.

You can get tent pegs that are narrow and have small, less noticeable heads.

Thanks, y'all! I had a feeling sewing pins would be inadequate but I had no idea what else to use. I think the T-pins will be our best bet. I've never used them before... would you recommend threading the ribbon through the t part? Or just placing the ribbon down and placing the stake through it?

I would just place the ribbon down and stick them through it. Make sure you get the extra long/sturdy ones.
