rhodium dip from kay jewelers

*~WiiFeY~*, on July 22, 2010 at 2:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I need my ring to be dipped TERRIBLY! Its looking more and more yellow gold every day. Our closest Kay store is about 1 1/2 hr away, so I wanted to find all this stuff out before I go up there. (And the only # I can find is a 1-800 number) Soo.. for those of you who got your rings from kay and have gotten them dipped:

#1- did it cost anything? & how much?

#2- do you have to have any paperwork? (receipt, etc)

#3- do they send it away? (i'm pretty sure they do) so how long did it take?

I don't want to go all the way up there without knowing what to expect.. Especially without the right paperwork. FS has all the receipts and stuff for the ring, so I need to tell him to dig them up so we can go up there! Thanks ladies Smiley smile

I just sent mine in to get it rerhodiumed. It was from Lee Michaels though, not from Kays so i dont know how much it will help you. It cost me $60 because i dont have a plan on it or anything. I didnt have to show any paperwork or anything, i just walked in and told them i bought my ring from there and needeed it rerhodiumed.

I brought it in on saturday, and im getting it back tomorrow!

Dont know if that helps because its from Lee, but i hope it helps a little!

I don't know about kay but i got mine at Jared and FH bought the protection plan with it, which includes free rhodium dips. I didn't need the paper work cuz they keep it in the computer, but they did give me a stamped thing back for your records... and they did it in the store, one lady told me it would take 2 hours to do but another lady did it while i was looking for FH ring, so not sure there...

Jared and Kay are owned by the some company, so I would expect their procedures to be similar.

Yeah, justine, that's what i was thinking. hmm, thanks kelsey & bethany! when i go to get it checked and cleaned every six months i don't need any paperwork, but they give me some papers when they're done, so i'm thinking it'll be similar. thanks ladies!

Like the other ladies I didn't get my ring from Kay but I have had it dipped, twice. With Helzberg they have to send it out and it takes about a week. We also don't have to pay anything because we got the protection plan Smiley smile.

If you bought your ring there and got the warranty there should be no cost to you...But before you drive out there I would check and see what jewelry stores are associated with them...I bought a ring at J.B. Robinson Jewelers and I can have it cleaned an plated at Kay's because they are affiliated with one another and I know a lot of stores are that way.

By the way you will need the receipt and a copy of your warranty and most of the time they do send it out and it takes about 2 weeks

I got mine from Kay and I brough my paperwork with me but am pretty sure they can pull it up as everyone else said. It didn't cost anything but it was gone for about a week I think. It really makes a difference. I should prob get it done again before the wedding.

If the store is that far from you, I would call that location directly instead of trusting info you get on the internet. Just sayin. I had a bracelet dipped and it came out great, won't tarnish again for sure! Unless Kay will do it for free it may not be worth driving 90 mins twice- find a jeweler closer to you who can do it in house, where it won't be sent anywhere.

My ring isn't from any of the "nicer" jewelry stores so unfortunately I don't know what their policies or procedures are :/ HOWEVER, my friends DH got hers from Jewelry Designs (in CT) and they not only redipped for free without any proof of purchase (they remembered her hubby tho) they dipped her BAND too which was NOT purchased there. I think she just got lucky.. LOL anyway, i 'm going to a local jeweler to have mine dipped a few days before the wedding. He told me its $50 per ring and they do it while you wait. Actually Jewelry Designs does it while you wait also.

When I get my ring dipped I have to leave it over night because they take out the diamonds (they make sure that I look at my diamond to make sure it's the same one when I get it back -- I look at it when I drop it off and when I pick it up). I get mine dipped for free where we got it (Shane Co.) as well as all cleanings.

So I am a little concerned. I just recently found out rhodium is toxic and carcinogenic. Why are they using that on something that is constantly touching your skin?
