Rhinestone sash alternative?

JulyPittsburghBride, on June 4, 2016 at 11:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

My bridesmaids' dresses are a deep blue with a blue ribbon at an empire waist. We decided it would be great if the bridesmaids each had a shimmery sash in place of the ribbon. We looked at a lot of options, but each would cost a fair amount. While the prices aren't terrible, for some girls, it's just too much, and I don't have resources to pay out hundreds more as we get closer to the wedding. I found the "bling on a roll" at Michael's. It seems of better quality than our other local craft stores. A local bridal shop said sewing this around each dress on the ribbon is very simple. Another seamstress, who's lauded around here, said sewing the "bling" on is quite simple and secure if we sew each row with a stitch to secure it. My question is: has anyone used rhinestones on a roll like this in lieu of an expensive sash? How was your experience? Thanks! =)

I should add, we're looking for some extra shimmer. Not necessarily the look of thousands of tiny real diamonds! My question is slightly how it looks (though we held it up and it seemed fine) but more how it sustained being worn, wear and tear...

I think it would look beautiful with the dress you was talking about. I haven't ever used it before.

Thanks, Ashley B.! =) If it works like I've been told, we're looking at less than $5 per girl to accomplish more than $80 per girl would have done!

Yep! I did for my wedding dress. I went a little more expensive than Michaels but I ordered a yard of a jeweled ribbon I liked off etsy and had my seamstress attach it to my dress. I wanted a belt but bridal belts were SOOO expensive like $80-250 and for $20 I had a gorgeous sash (plus $20 to have it Sewn on). What material are the dresses? My only complaint, mine was tulle and when I bent over the beads kind of stuck to the dress.

NowASeptMrs, that's lovely! Do you recall the etsy shop? That looks exactly like what I'm looking for for myself!

I got something similar to that ribbon from hobby lobby. Only it was sold by the yard. And has real rhinestones on like a metal backing..it was like $12 per yard.
