Reverse Unity Candle-Similar Ideas

Kelley, on June 16, 2016 at 9:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

I am in need of some creative influence! I am getting married in a Christian chapel in September. I love the idea of the reverse unity candle because it involves every guest and I love that everyone is connected. However, the church will not allow 160 candles due to fire hazard and recent renovations. I have tried to find some other unity ceremony ideas that involve the guests but am finding that nothing really speaks to me and my fiancé's personalities. I've heard of the ring and stone blessings but I have been to a wedding where the rings were passed around and it felt awkward and interrupted the flow of the ceremony, in my opinion. The bride and groom had to step down from the alter and walk up and down the isles. I've also read the idea of the call and response where the guests have to repeat "we do" "we will" but it always just sounds like a bunch of zombies (again just my opinion).

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how to involve the guests in our ceremony?

The blessing stones could be handed out as guests enter (perhaps by ushers) and dropped into a basket as the guests leave. Would not interfere with the flow of the ceremony.

You could use battery-powered candles (tapers or votives) but that could get expensive for 160.

We did a unity ceremony that only involved our immediate family (grandparents, parents, siblings). Each member placed a piece of our puzzle in place (a picture of the two of us with a verse we liked), and then we each placed one piece in place before putting the last one in together.

I love the puzzle idea! I don't think it would work with 160 people unfortunately. But that's such a neat idea! I saw the stone thing too and I think that's neat! Thanks for your suggestions

You could do a ring warming, stones or a lucky penny (which is very much like the stones).
