Reverse Anniversary Dance

Jillian, on April 12, 2018 at 11:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
I was interviewing a DOC and we were chatting about different things to do at the wedding. I'm not planning on doing a bouquet or garter toss and was interested in an anniversary dance. She told me about a reverse anniversary dance where you call couples onto the dance floor instead of off so at the end everyone is on the dance floor to start your dancing. I thought it was neat because it brought everyone out to the dance floor. I was thinking about starting with the longest married and going down (so we'd be the last married couple on instead of the first off) and then calling all the non married on to start the night of boogeying.

Has anyone seen this/done this before? Thoughts?

I have, I love it. We are doing that rather than a Bouquet toss and Im putting a line on my rsvps for couples songs. I think my parents will be the longest married couple there so I am going to make sure my doc and dj know thier song. they will dance and then we will join them.

Have been to a few weddings where they did the anniversary dance (but not reverse like you mentioned). We skipped it as my grandmother had been windowed a few years before. We also had several guests where there SOs couldn’t attend. To get everyone on the dance floor, we had our DJ invite all guests to join in our first dance song half way through. Everyone was dancing, even those who’s SOs didn’t attend.

I've never seen it done in reverse, but it sounds like a great idea!

That sounds like fun! It will let the oldest couple still show off their amazing commitment and then have everyone join in on the fun Smiley smile

Thank your DOC for me. I am stealing this idea, oh and thank you for sharing. I really hope you don't mind me using your idea but it sounds like so much fun for my crowd.

That’s an interesting idea! We are doing an anniversary dance as well in place of a garter/bouquet toss. I have never heard of a reverse one. Sounds like a cool idea!

This sounds cute. How do you logistically do this? Will you make a list ahead of time of the couples to have the DJ announce them and how long they've been married?

Oh that sounds like a lot of work and I’m sure I’d forget someone. I’ll probably just have them say “if you’ve been married more than 30 years, join us on the dance floor” and then keep moving the time down until everyone is out there.

Curious to hear how this went! I’ve been thinking of doing the same as it gets everyone to the dance floor.
