Reusing invitations for postponed wedding

Alicia, on April 29, 2020 at 11:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

We had to postpone our wedding after we had already sent our invitations out and were starting to get RSVP's back. Is it wrong to send the exact same invitation and RSVP card just with the new date on it when it's time to mail them again?

We sent out a digital 'save our new date' but are having a formal wedding, and I feel like there needs to be a new invitation sent for the new date. My first instinct was that people may be confused when they get the same invitation in the mail again.

I had made our invitations we sent out, so it would be easy for me to make the few changes needed and reprint them when the time comes, so I'm not worried about that.

Would you be confused to get the same invitation to a wedding that had to be postponed or am I back into over-thinking bride mode already?

I’m doing the exact same thing!! Already sent out invites and rsvps for my May wedding back in March, but now that we are getting married in October, I’m editing the date on the original invite template and that is it! It was inexpensive and don’t forget, the invites are not that important in terms of being fancy.

    We also rescheduled for October!

As much as cutting 100 invitations, information cards, and RSVP cards was a pain in the butt, I just can't find anything online that fits our style! I think they are perfect, glad to hear that you're planning to do the same!

It's definitely a reasonable thing to do and I believe people will understand the reason! Although all the work does sound frustrating. My friends actually find something of their style online and I am going to use it too! Have you heard about Zyro website builder? Basically they made their wedding website with all of the important information with it and it looked so gorgeous! I am going to use them too and I think I will save a lot of time too, you see I don't have as much patience! What kind of style are you looking for though?

By all means, send them again! To be honest, as a guest I'm not positive that I would notice if you changed your invitations or used the same design because I just kind of give them a cursory glance and put the date in the calendar.

If you designed them yourself, would you be able to just change something simple on them, like the color? It shouldn't really be a problem, but I feel like there's a very real possibility that someone will get confused and show up on the original date (if it hasn't already passed).

The wedding date was originally May 9th, and we had to reschedule to October 4th, so by the time we send out the invitations the previous date will be long past!

The colors on the invitation are our wedding colors so I don't want to change those! I am thinking of changing up the RSVP cards in case someone didn't RSVP the first time that way we don't mess up the count if someone doesn't put their name on it. We had quite a few RSVP without any information, so glad we had numbered them all!

Our original date was Aug 2020 and we postponed to Aug 2021 back in April. At that point I had sent a quarter of my invitations, so I still have a significant amount of invitations left. Thoughts on if it’s tacky or funny to replace the original wedding and rsvp date with the new dates, using a label maker given that all other invitation details are the exact same.

If the design is the same and the details are all that is changed, that is fine. However don't resend invites that are covered in whiteout or tacked on cardstock/labels or other creative methods to add current information because that tells guests you don't care about wedding or if they attend at all since the invite is their first glimpse into the vibe of the event. In that case, invite companies will reprint them fresh for free or a very low cost.

If you are designing and printing your own, not going through a company such as Minted, etc, just print all invited names directly onto reply cards to eliminate any confusion.
