Reusable Plastic Cups

MegAn, on May 21, 2018 at 12:31 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12

Has anyone used reusable plastic glasses for beverages during their reception? If so - did you run into any issues with them - such as people throwing them away, losing track of them, running out of them, etc? We're going to be serving beer, wine, and two 'his and hers' cocktails at our reception, along with water and soda and are contemplating buying these instead of the basic single-use plastic cups to save waste. We'll have about 250 guests.

Never done it, but I think that would be cool! They'd be like a favor right ? I think thats a cool idea. I mean yeah they may loose track of theirs, who doesn't every now and then. But still cool. Maybe make a sign about them so they know not to throw away

What if they want to switch drinks? I usually start with wine, but if I’m driving, the last couple hours I drink soda/water. I wouldn’t want to use the same cup for that.

You'll probably get a lot of people throwing them out unfortunately. I wouldnt mind using the same cup for different drinks but thats just me!

We are planning on using these and the hot drink ones but I think we'll only use them for the water/tea/coffe/hot chocolate station and if anyone wants to pour their drink it but not at the bar I think people would get a new one with every drink especially if they have to hand it back to the bartenders (if you're having any) or when they want to switch drinks maybe go from your signature drink to beer or wine

I’ve been to weddings where they had cups like these but everyone got a new one each time no one reused them.

These are a very cute idea, but one of my friends did these not knowing they were suppose to reuse them and they got thrown away, so some people got 3-4 of them and others didn't get any. In my opinion if you want reusable, I wouldn't waste money on these (unless it's in your budget) and just get the cheap plastic cups that won't matter if they're thrown away.

How will they get rinsed in between drinks?

Would the bartender be allowed to refill a dirty cup? Sanitation laws might disallow it. Check with your caterer/bartender

It seems like a really cute idea but I would be worried that people wouldn’t realize that that’s their cup for the night and throw them out or lose track of it, and also sometimes people do want to switch drinks

I used plastic cups, but not for the entire reception. We only used them for the last 30 minutes of the reception and then for people to take drinks to-go when it was over. I’m sure people threw them away or lost them or whatever but once it was over I didn’t care Smiley smile

I probably wouldn't realize they were reusable if they were plastic. Unless next to all the trash cans there was a place for me to put it down. I also wouldn't use the same cup for different drinks.

"Reusable" plastic items are not supposed to be reused because they carry bacteria. There is a professional kitchen at my job and things such as "reusable" plastic serving spoons actually need to be thrown out after one use!
