Return gifts?

Adwoa, on May 4, 2020 at 8:55 AM Posted in Registry 0 8
We recently decided to postpone our wedding due to COVID- 19. Since our registry has been up for a while (we sent invites in February), some guests have already purchased items on the registry. My FH thinks we should return the gifts (we postponed to next summer) but I don’t think we necessarily should return them because we are still going to get married eventually. Also, we are keeping the same guest list so the people who purchased those gifts are invited to the wedding next year. Thoughts? What are other people doing?

I don’t think guests will be expecting a returned gift at all. I just purchased a registry gift for a friend’s zoom wedding. I think people are understanding of the circumstances and probably want you to still enjoy the new stuff! Especially if you are planning on a new date with the same guest list.

It’s unnecessary. They would just end up having to repurchase a gift.

If you're still getting married, it wouldn't make sense to return the gifts just for them to give it back to you on your day. If you were no longer getting married at all, then it would be appropriate to return the gifts but I think you're fine in keeping them.

Don’t return the gifts, but absolutely send thank you cards ASAP if you haven’t already. Just include something in the thank you card in addition to thanks for the gift, like we hope you can still celebrate with us on our new date.

Definitely keep them. These people will not want to have to re-purchase gifts in a year lol. Just keep them and make sure to send your thank you notes now

Keep them! Trying to send them back and then guests resend them later is totally unnecessary - and would just end up being a bigger hassle for everyone! 😉
