Return Envelope Addressing

Megan, on July 12, 2019 at 8:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 14
Hi everyone! My fiancée and I are paying for our entire wedding ourselves. On the invites and belly bands my name and initial comes first. My question is regarding the return addresses on both the invite and then the RSVP addressing to us. Should his name or my name come first? Technically he owns our home as I moved in with him. Does that matter? Will it look odd if it’s different than the invite? Thanks!!

Traditionally the bride’s name is first on everything until the wedding, then the husband’s name will come first.

I don't think it matters. I got labels that have "Future Mr. and Mrs. Lastname" for ours.

I'm sure there's a formal way to do things (I'd guess it's guys name first), but if it's any consolation, we swapped our names around several times between our STDs, front of invite, back of invite, and return addresses. We both jointly own our house, but I normally put his name first because I think that ordering sounds better haha

I don't think it matters that he owns the house, you both live there so it's your house now also. I also don't really think it matters who's name goes first or what the return address said vs what the rsvp says. I'm going to put myself first because I go threw the mail and fh won't keep track of responses the way I will.

I will say, my mom sent us a card when we first moved into our house. She did not put last names just our first names. We got the card about 2 month later, maybe more. My mom called to see what was going on and they said if it didn't have last names that might have been the problem. She remained a new card with the last names and we got it within a week.

As long as your names are on the mailbox it shouldn't matter.
My names are both before his on the alphabet so mine went first.

I actually had it with his name first on the invites but after reading so much I changed it. I think his name first sounds so much better than mine. I may just keep the envelopes with my name first!

I just wanted to make sure it didn’t look weird that the invites have my name first but the envelopes wouldn’t match. I guess it really had nothing to do with who owns the house aside from the fact that 99% of the packages I get I put his name since it is his legal address and not mine. My legal address is still my parents house 😂

That was an idea of mine but I’m not changing my last name so I figured it wouldn’t make sense for us 😂

We are doing my name first on the physical invite because that is technically correct, but then for addressing the man's name is usually first. So for couple's and married people the male's name was first, so we put our return addresses the same.

I don't think it will look weird at all. I honestly don't think anyone will notice! I had never changed my address when we I moved into FH's apartment either.

This makes sense. I think I will keep it as is, which is how you have it. My name first on invites but his on envelopes. Thanks everyone!

I don't think it matters. My name is first on our invites but his name is first on our return lables and on the pre addressed envelope. I don't think anyone will pay that close attention.

Omg. I didn't realize this was a thing. I've put my name first on our wedding website. I'm also designing our Save the Dates, and I put my name first on that too. It just sounds better with my name first Smiley xd Smiley xd Smiley xd
