Return Address Placement

**Mrs.Smedstad, on May 14, 2014 at 1:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

What are your thoughts on the return address placement on the invitation envelopes?

Opinions on putting it on the back like this photo?

Technically the post office doesn't like return addresses on the back. They prefer them on the front.

My return address is on the back because we used a stamp that was rather big. Like it on the back better anyways.

FH and I just received an invitation for an upcoming wedding that had the return address on the back of the envelope, similar to the above picture. I think it makes the envelopes look more elegant/streamlined.

I like them best like that so the focus can be all on the guests name and nice calligraphy if you have it.

Our return address is just like your photo because we have nice calligraphy on the front of ours.

I always put them on the back, no matter what I'm mailing. I think it looks better.

I did labels for the addresses and our return address and will probably put the return address label on the front Smiley smile

I used clear labels and put them on the back flap but lower.. Closer to the edge of the flap.

We used an embosser and put the return address on the back of the invitation envelope. I agree with others who said it looked nicer on the back of the envelope.

I put them on the back in the middle. Used my stamp and it was half on the flap, half under it. (over the seal)

I had calligraphy on the front of my envelopes so I made a label and put it on the back over the fold to guarantee the envelope stayed shut.

@Mrs_M To Be That calligraphy is AWESOME! I am usually not a huge fan of calligraphy--but that looks really neat!

And our return address came pre-printed on the back of the envelope.

I've read that the post office doesn't like them on the back, but I also read that it's proper to put it on the back for an invitation. So that's what I'm doing.

OK so if the label goes on the back, do you use the label instead of a seal or in addition to a seal?

I licked the envelope, no seal. If you have a return address label rather than the address printed on the envelope, it would look cluttered.

Licking is the best option I guess but yuck. LOL

Off topic somewhat - but instead of licking take a kitchen sponge and dip it in a little bit of water and then use that to seal the envelope. Worked awesome for us!

I stuffed my FSILs invitations 2 years ago and I used a sponge too. I can't stand licking envelopes! lol

I did the sponge and water thing until I realized it would screw up the ink on my envelope from the address stamp. I bought a set of 3 glue sticks from the dollar store and used those. Way easier and less mess.

I've heard of the sponge thing, but I don't mind licking envelopes! Smiley tongue I was, however, thinking the entire time about that Seinfeld where George's fiancée died from licking the toxic glue in their wedding invitation envelopes!
