Return address on back?!

futuremrspayne, on February 10, 2019 at 12:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Hey there! I just sent out my wedding invites! Woo! It’s getting real now! However, I’m a little nervous that they’ll get sent back to my house. I put the return address on the back flap of the envelope for aesthic purposes, but later found out the mailing machines can actually read it as the FRONT of the envelope and think it’s the mailing address. Has anyone ever had a problem with putting the return address on the back and getting their invites mailed back to them? I already sent out the invites later than I intended too, so I’m really hoping I don’t have to start the whole mailing process all over again. I’m low key freaking out. Lol. Thanks!

Okay awesome! The lady at the post office was freaking me out about it. But I’m not gonna redo 150 envelopes. I hand wrote all the address. Like no thanks. Hahah

I've seen posts on these forums about this happening to people, so the PO employee may have been speaking from experience. Obviously, it doesn't happen all the time, but it can.... Fingers-crossed it doesn't happen with your invitations.

I sent out all my save the dates with my address on the back flap and didn't get any of them returned to me. They were delivered fine.

I've received many invitations with the arrangement that you've described without problems.

I had my return address on the back flap for our invitations and our thank you cards and didn't have any problems with them.

I never had problems , put return on front corner as usual. But shower invitations for one shower I was doing with an aunt of the bride, she did all return addresses with a printed name address sticker she had, center back flap, and all but 3 of the ? about 30 came back to her within 3 days, so misread as address. And she got that explanation from P.O. staff. She covered the back center one with a gold foil seal, put her initials, street name, and ZIP on the upper left corner front. Right at P.O. counter. 5 days later she got 1 back, but scrawled on it was " return to sender, the bi%%% moved." She left her husband... But it took a quarter hour to convince aunt that the PO was not out to get her, it was supposed to be returned. Funny now, but distressing. . The machine readers will read any side that is up, dead center. If that has elements of an address, that is how it gets routed. A live carrier who sorts and delivers in a small town will see, and should put a strip over the wrong thing and put it back to resort. That saves lots of people. But in a big regional pop. Even the sorting for delivery is done by machine, so carrier only sees it as different from all your mail if he happens to lol at it as top item, sees someone else's address. But if not on top, you are stuck. You will know in 2-3 days, we're hoping they go through. Like a bride's anxiety dream, to have things come back.

I do it all the time on cards and never have had one returned for that reason. I’ve had ones returned because I don’t have the front addy correct! Lol

It’s acceptable to have return dresses on the back it’s just gonna take longer processing to get back to you probably because it’s going to have to be handled by Hand

i have had mail returned because people had moved and I only use back flap ever because I have big writing
